I didn't know the meaning, so I looked it up. Wikipedia says:
Cabooses provided shelter for trolls at the end of a forum, who were required for flaming and baiting, and to keep a lookout for a load of bullshit, damage to equipment and oblivion, or overheating PhatScotties.
