It really depends on what category of hip hop your talking about. If you want a talented rapper, check out Rhazel. He makes his own raps while doing the beats to his song... AT THE SMAE TIME! Check "If Your Mother Only Knew". But otherwise, gotta go with Wu Tang and Immortal Technique(saw him live in concert.)

Eh, it was probly right to leave out Vanilla Ice because he was kind of that one hit wonder material. Other than "Ice, Ice, Baby", a regular person has not even heard another one of his songs, though he is a classic.

like guis said. how can you have a poll without most of the def jam label.
public enemy would be my pick. three times i went to see them in manchester. ll cool j, early on he has some decent stuff. EPMD and BDP.
eric b and rakim, got their first 2 albums(very good), seen them with public enemy and ll cool j top the bill, at the apollo in manchester, back in 1988/9.
i would also like to mention the beastie boys. soooo mnay car badges stolen of cars when they started and still going strong. very underated.

I think he was being sarcastic lol.
Thank you, of course I would never include him in a serious list.

If you want to get technical, Rhazel is an emcee as he boxes more then he raps, so I'm not sure he'd belong on this list... I listened to "If your mother only knew" like 10 times before I believed it was real... The stuff he did with Saul Williams and/or A Tribe Called Quest was amazing...
I wonder if the OP of this thread was being sarcastic with his choices because some of them really suck.... Best hip hop artist of all time, 50 Cent, please....

Yeh Rahzel is a pretty top-class beat boxer. There are many people who can sing and box at the same time, but he does do a proficient job of it.

A Tribe Called Quest (who'd take the title for me) De La Soul Souls Of Mischief Grandmaster Flash Eric B and Rakim Run DMC Public Enemy Pete Rock & C L Smooth
...for just a few, not forgetting Wu Tang. I'd also put Black Starr (Talib Kweli & Mos Def) and Gangstarr up there. Possibly even Big L too.
Sugarhill gang were important in the early days, and rappers delight is an important track, but as someone said earlier they haven't got the legacy.
And as good as Tupac was, he's not the greatest lyricist of all time in my opinion. To be honest, he's above average but not great. Immortal Technique is certainly up there for hard-hitting and intelligent rhymes, perhaps alongside Brother Ali and in terms of flow and pure style its got to be Q-Tip from Tribe or Tajai from Souls.
Tupac an above average lyricist??? I guess it is your opinion...I think he is one of the best.
And I agree with you on Illmatic, definitely one of the best of all time.
How is biggie so low?? He was awesome!! Even though he was friends with P-diddy...that can only hurt you.
i still suck cock for a living

I know its just opinion, but I really don't see where people who put him on such a pedistool are coming from... His style in terms of rhymes, syntax, metaphor/simile, rhythm etc. has certainly been bettered by many. The subjects he rapped about are pretty standard. He wasn't saying anything new, just saying it to a bigger crowd. Obviously I applaud him, he was a great artist after all, but I think he suffers a bit from Kurt Cobain syndrome - legend through death.

Psilocbin wrote:I think that he covered EVERY subject to rap about, that's why rap sucked after him.
Yeh but every subject had been covered before. Nothing new. His content wasn't as political as Public Enemy, as styled and subtle as A Tribe Called Quest, as clever as Souls of Mischief and as rhythmically competent as Rakim. Jack of all trades but a master of none, as it were

That's just an opinion, the stats don't really agree.

What stats? Sales?
That makes Eminem the second best rapper ever to grace the mic...

His lyrics make sense and can't be contested. I've heard Public Enemy and they don't have what it takes to capture everyone's attention or interest. A Tribe Called Quest beg to differ though..

When did i once mention "Tu"pac? I think youve heard this before:
Go back and re-read.
And i believe this poll was meant to debate the best hip hop artist ever. Not listen to Psilocbin and treat what "it" says as God's. I can say whatever the hell i want: f*ck Eminem, his music blows. See, its debatable.
