There are differences state by state for many specifics / rules, BUT to purchase / sell, it goes thru the feds and the basic rules. No felonies, no violent misdemeanors, no psychiatric issues, fingerprinted, data tracked by the FFL, yadda yadda.

My father had a .45 in his collection. Just a standard Colt 1911, nothing special, but a lot of fun.

Last time I shot it was in '83. My father was out of town, so I agreed to come to the old homestead and visit my mother. Had my new girlfriend with me, and she'd never shot a gun, so of course I had to show off. We did a standard shoot-off. I scored 1/7, my new girlfriend, who had never shot a gun before, or at least claimed she hadn't, shot 5/7. Embarrassing!!!

That plain jane 1911 is worth 1-3 grand, depending on the model / age....hope you get it some day!
