I'm watching the end of the Wings / Kings game now. Wings up 3-0. It's funny, when they put in the salary cap, everyone thought that the Wings would take a tumble, but it seems that they really do have the best GM in the league.

Yep, I'm up pulling a late-night too watching the Wings. Best team in hockey (with apologies to Ottawa).

Oh and awesome clip too Nate! We'll never forget that game eh? :D

Best 2 minutes of hockey ever.

I still have the picture of Patrick Roy from the newspaper the next day. . . three separate trails of blood down the front of his face.

Ouch! Gotta love it when they show off their tenacity.

Man... those were the days. I'm not sure I've ever seen a game so intense.

Something like that. He looked more scared in the paper, or maybe that was just my memory.

That's me, a proud Avs fan. And I have to say, I'm a huge fan of Roy, namely because of that game.

Just wanted to know what other hockey fans thought of the All-Star weekend. Personally I enjoyed it. I really liked the relay race part of the skills competiton. The game itself was ok, nothing special because it always lacks the intensity that makes hockey great. I was happy to see Savard get the game winner though! (Go Bruins!) and Rick Nash should have won the MVP regardless of the fact that his team lost.

Ok, football happens to be my favorite sport, and I hope Arsenal win the Premiership, but this is a hockey thread.

Nash's backhander was a thing of true beauty. St. Louis (I think?) tried to do the same move in the Breakout Challenge but failed miserably.

To qoute Sam Seaborne, "Why not just stick a Sumo wrestler in goal, the other team would never score".
Hockey is for people that think country dancing is a valid use of someones time.

I personally didn't care much for the skills competition. Some of the stuff was entertaining, but then when they wrapped up with the "Breakaway challenge", that was just ridiculous. I hate all judged competitions, such as figure skating and freestyle snowboarding, and that silly "breakaway" thing was more of the same. Just nonsense. When is Ovechkin ever going to throw the puck in the air, and take a baseball-style swing at in in a game? Never. Just silly.

As far as the game itself, I'd rather watch an AHL or college game. It's just not hockey. I'm a fan who likes to see big hits, and while the pretty goals are fun to see, I want to see them be earned, it makes things so much more exciting.

Actually, country dancing is a completely different demographic.

Avid hockey fan. Favourite team would be the Hurricanes (see avatar), or Flames because of location.

I am always disappointed by the All-Star Game, although the changes to the Skills Competition (especially the Fastest Skater) made this year's festivities much better than usual.

Anybody else notice how much better the game got at the end when the players decided to win at the end? Still not NHL regular season quality, but much better than the first and second.

Huge early to mid 90's Blackhawks fan. I know, weird. Hockey has faded for me, back to the hardcore fan of baseball I was as a little boy. But I miss playing hockey badly. (Goalie.)

Was that just to inflame the thread or were you genuinely wondering because Serbia did a fine job of listing many black players for you.
