NO, the buety of doodle is simple gameplay, and easy to understand, that would take away from everything

this dosn't look doodle at all, the names are obviously computer generated, the borders look so too, the background is also, and pretty much everything else

im not saying that, all im saying is that for this to make it through the foundry, there will be a lot more work needed

The first post explains scanner issues. If only we could just doodle on screen. The image is a photo of a coloured sketch with various bits added.

Electronic parts replace what will be scanned later (still at initial sketch stage but much easier then to see what the map might look like).

At the moment I take exception on the names, seems like a bigoted interpretation of the geography of Europe from a xenophobic Western child.

That's the Doodle Earth 'blueprint' - as previous discussions show names will be amended.

Worth considering if there's a difference between bigoted xenophobia and innocent ignorance though. Are 'Irakstan' and 'More Russia' acceptable?

Well at the moment, it seems wrong he knows exactly where France, Spain and UK are.. perhaps mix it up a bit.

For instance, change Ireland to Island.

I guess it depends where the child is from.

Island is a good idea. I'm inclined to agree with the idea of a mix of correct and incorrect names - Transilvania an Ibiza need closer spellings, maybe Scandinavia too (and a capiltal C on canaries). With those changes perhaps the territory names would be more accepted. I guess then the most contentious territory would be 'Higher Napa' which should really be a name of shame for any British nationalists (given what the Brits act like there).

It would be unrealistic for a primary school child to have perfect geographical knowledge and avoid having a point of view according to where they live, have travelled and have heard about - unless they research with some adult guidance. It's a matter of balance I guess, hopefully these changes will be a better balance.

P.S. The Irakstan and More Russia reference above was asking whether the original Doodle map might also be classed as xenophobic.

Here's the amended initial sketch with changed territory names:

N.B. Still an initial sketch with electronic add-ons - the next draft will have similar layout but totally different (scanned drawings as opposed to photo etc.)

Same thing about half the people said in the other thread of doodle rip offs, including myself, applies to this map.

Hmm, so no rip offs.

No rip offs altogether or just Doodle rip-offs? Why are we here?

I think the issue should be down to the site management - they can assess such issues with experience and would also be aware of the potential audience for a quick-game map.
I'd better go to confessional at the EvilDimWit church and beg forgiveness for using a crayon and letting my son do a doodle. Oh, and, shame on me, nearly forgot: for bigoted zenophobia (I must re-read the learnings of the holy map to cleanse myself of that one).

Is non-copyright paranoia the fall-back argument for not having more D... maps?

Maybe worth changing the name, then change it back later when the frenzy has died down and the author of the original has had more time to not reply?

How about Crayon Europe or Euro-Crayon or the Euro-Crayon Project?

Pepsi?

How about "~" (the symbol formerly known as D... Earth Map)?
No crayons?

Crayon is my preferred style. I was thinking of a vote at some point between crayon, pen and graphics fill.

I seriously think the Holy Doodle and crayon issue can be left for CC folks to approve or not. Given the site's existence in the face of Hasbro's copyright and commercial powers (e.g. ability to pay legal fees etc.), then using the word 'Doodle' and using crayons are surely not a massive issue? Doodle is a common activity and a common word that surely cant be copyrighted? And I doubt its possible for an individual to have control of the use of crayons? If this were the case then there would only be one watercolour artist in history, one oil-paints artist etc?

They are issues worth mentioning at the ideas stage but I'd suggest that the CC administrators are best placed to give an experienced view later down the line.

I would suggest that leaving that issue aside would mean people can comment on the merits of crayon / pen and graphics fill without clouded judgement from this issue. If it later arises that crayon usage or the name 'Doodle' gives too many similarities with the original then the map can then easily revert to another name / format at that point.

In the meantime, I would suggest that the map is improved to reduce the number of objections and increase the body of support.

Initial sketch version 2 coming soon.

Any territory name alterations, layout suggestions etc. most welcome.

This initial sketch is with felt tips - I reckon crayons would look better - but let the people decide.

No response to PM to EvilDimWit and, after hassle installing AIM (!), it appears that "evildimwit hasn't filled out their profile yet". It would therefore seem that he probably doesn't use aim? I'll check periodically anyway.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "it would take sit from the original map" regarding the word Doodle. Doodle Earth would still be Doodle Earth.

Like I say, I think the site administrators are the experts that can determine such things. Unless the consensus of the community suggests another name. The current name makes it clear what the map is to players. Another name would be cool though.

Hang on - I've maybe got an idea for a new name:

"King of Europe"

It fits with Isaac's statement.

If you go with something like "Kings of Europe" --- why not incorporate some game play focused on around Crowns, to differentiate this map a little. Crown icons could be located in historical monarchical kingdoms. How it would work, etc, who knows. :) Just a thought. :)

Like andy said add doodle crowns like a kid would draw. Also make a feature around them, like crowns can bombard kingdom maybe an autodeply? Skys the limit!
Nice map!
