Exactly, my 9 years in an Armenian prison taught me little conventional knowledge, but a plethora of "street knowledge" I can now pick any nun's pocket from here to Providence, RI.
Even "book smart" and "street smart" is an oversimplification. Some people are good at some things while others are good at other things, and which things you have to do and how you good you have to be at it is utterly arbitrary. For instance, someone who can write amazing music or can paint an awesome picture is often called a "genius." Conversely, someone who can sell the shit out of anything they want or can manage a business efficient could be considered a "genius." These two things are totally different though, and as you can see the line drawn between mediocre and smart is impossible to define.

Average as in if you saw 10 people, and 5 of which don't know who the current U.S. president is and the other 5 did then the average would be 10 people who knew our president was black but didn't know his name.
