So... which is which?squishyg wrote:I thought Flame Wars was a pretty negative place to hang out, and I rarely venture into Turtle Soup for the same reason. However those two fora are extremely different. There's a difference between being able to playfully (at best) insult people for game related reasons, it's another to foster an environment where poisonous opinions are spouted and people's deeply held moral, religious, and political views are ripped apart and insulted without a modicum of respectful debate.

I think the going forward question should be, "which do we want?"MeDeFe wrote:So... which is which?squishyg wrote:I thought Flame Wars was a pretty negative place to hang out, and I rarely venture into Turtle Soup for the same reason. seriously, if i called anyone "jackass", "poop face" and "doo doo brown" within a single thread as a certain member did, do you seriously believe i would not be banned for baiting and/or flaming? the point is the rules are not the same for everyone on this site. the fact that i was told that a very obvious instance of baiting and flaming by an extended member of the CC family, was not, is ridiculous. and dear lord, imagine if i had even BREATHED that a black member being called "doo doo brown" and "poop face" was borderline racist (which it easily could be called). i would have been maligned as being on my "crusade" again. however, since "jackass", "poopface" and "doo doo brown" have been declared non-insulting words which are not flames, i'm ok with it... however, with the new family friendly CC, it is hard to know where the lines are and when you cross them. and it is especially hard to know when the rules are going to be enforced and against whom...-0the.killing.44 wrote:I don't see how people are taking "poopface" and "doo doo brown" to be actual insults. Or 1950s Soviet Union...Snorri1234 wrote:And I don't mean backwards as in "wow that's kinda stupid" but backwards as in "hey, when did we suddenly travel to the pre civil-war South?"
this is simply not true. flame wars was removed and thus there is no longer any offensive content on this site...-0Snorri1234 wrote:And I don't mean backwards as in "wow that's kinda stupid" but backwards as in "hey, when did we suddenly travel to the pre civil-war South?"

Yeah, I wish sailor didn't put that question in there or even ask it. It got me in hot water because I didn't know what it meant. Apparently it was bigotry. Then sailor came out with this bullshit-saying that he begged me not to say that, but I insisted-to make sure it looked like I was a bigot and he did't have anything to do with it. Now I can't post on walls without getting warnings or bans due to the fact that he made it look that way.owenshooter wrote:p.s.-oh, and nice temporary lock on the thread where prime insulted members and never came back to explain his statement... i assume this is like the "temporary lock" on the tournament newsletter that contained the horribly bigoted interview with a 12 year kid that nobody bothered to edit other than another kid under the age of 15...

and here comes a mod baiting... thank you for proving my point... perhaps you didn't see the backlash in that newsletter thread and realize that colton was banned for a comment that should have never made the newsletter... and i don't care if you are just a mod in a sub-forum, you still have a coloured name and you should conduct yourself well within the rules at all times. i am all for family friendly, but i am more for even application of the rules, even the oft used "unwritten rules", for all members...-0mpjh wrote:OK, colton -- nobody cares except owenshooter -- just let it rest and play some games. Close to being banned. Warning on major/severe. Never should've gotten that one anyways.owenshooter wrote:and here comes a mod baiting... thank you for proving my point... perhaps you didn't see the backlash in that newsletter thread and realize that colton was banned for a comment that should have never made the newsletter... and i don't care if you are just a mod in a sub-forum, you still have a coloured name and you should conduct yourself well within the rules at all times. i am all for family friendly, but i am more for even application of the rules, even the oft used "unwritten rules", for all members...-0mpjh wrote:OK, colton -- nobody cares except owenshooter -- just let it rest and play some games. First I need to know which description applies to Flame Wars and which applies to Turtle Soup. One of the descriptions is "being able to playfully (at best) insult people for game related reasons" and the other is "to foster an environment where poisonous opinions are spouted and people's deeply held moral, religious, and political views are ripped apart and insulted without a modicum of respectful debate". But I don't which is FW and which is TS.squishyg wrote:I think the going forward question should be, "which do we want?"MeDeFe wrote:So... which is which?squishyg wrote:I thought Flame Wars was a pretty negative place to hang out, and I rarely venture into Turtle Soup for the same reason.
