That's what happens when society has devolved to the point where everyone is dependent upon the government for everything: when you want to reign in the government, you're automatically painted as Satan and hating poor people.Juan_Bottom wrote:Everyone look, phatscotty doesn't have any way to actually argue with the law without looking like Satan!

Exactly, it's up to people to help people, not the government. And, if the government would stop taking so much money and mandating what we purchase, people would have more money to be able to help other people. The government is actively working to replace people helping people through charity while also expanding their own authority to control everything. It's a cycle that will make us wholly-dependent unless we break it soon.Juan_Bottom wrote:Night Strike wrote:That's what happens when society has devolved to the point where everyone is dependent upon the government for everything: when you want to reign in the government, you're automatically painted as Satan and hating poor people.Juan_Bottom wrote:Everyone look, phatscotty doesn't have any way to actually argue with the law without looking like Satan!
I was actually making the point that Jesus commanded Christians to help the poor and meek and to not horde wealth. Other than "the government can't" the other argument in this thread is "I don't have any other plan to help but it's my money and I need it now!"
That's Satanic.
No, you just stated a straw man fallacy. Would you like to try again?Juan_Bottom wrote:Night Strike wrote:That's what happens when society has devolved to the point where everyone is dependent upon the government for everything: when you want to reign in the government, you're automatically painted as Satan and hating poor people.Juan_Bottom wrote:Everyone look, phatscotty doesn't have any way to actually argue with the law without looking like Satan!

1st, individuals aren't helping the poor. We're f*cking them over, really.Night Strike wrote:Exactly, it's up to people to help people, not the government. Or am I being too hopeful to expect something serious from you?BigBallinStalin wrote:No, you just stated a straw man fallacy. Everyone is dependent upon the government for everything? Does your hyperbole EVER get old, Night Strike? I'd think you'd get sick of being called out for it so often.Night Strike wrote:That's what happens when society has devolved to the point where everyone is dependent upon the government for everythingJuan_Bottom wrote:Everyone look, phatscotty doesn't have any way to actually argue with the law without looking like Satan!
No, that's definitely not it.Night Strike wrote:when you want to reign in the government, you're automatically painted as Satan and hating poor people.
Is this a comedy act of some sort?BigBallinStalin wrote:Or am I being too hopeful to expect something serious from you?BigBallinStalin wrote:No, you just stated a straw man fallacy. It's amazing that PS and NS still talk to you after your barrages of propaganda points. I guess that's part of your plan, right?
Honestly, that seems like a very irresponsible action. Especially given that he's apparently violating a court order by doing that.
Fixed.Night Strike wrote:In a two party political environment when you want to reign in the government, you're automatically painted as Satan and hating poor people because the ignorant masses feed off inflammatory sound bites
I would posit the rational SOCIALLY conservative more as (in no particular order):Lootifer wrote:Fixed.Night Strike wrote:In a two party political environment when you want to reign in the government, you're automatically painted as Satan and hating poor people because the ignorant masses feed off inflammatory sound bites
No rational individual believes that each other are satan for making policy suggestions based on their political alignment. But 2 party politics is seldom appealing to the rational punter.
FYI my examples of rational and irrational conservative right americans on this forum:
Rational: Nobunga, yourself
Irrational: Phatscotty

That's right, now that you say that, I do remember it.BigBallinStalin wrote:Doc Brown said he was a libertarian.
Sure, I agree. I was simply trying to point out that the "conservative bent" here on CC shouldn't get the anchor of Phatscotty and Night Strike hung on their neck just because they're the most vocal. I was trying to point out that there are a number of conservative posters here who are reasonable and rational while still being able to maintain generally conservative positions. I couldn't really make that case without "labeling" them as conservatives.spurgistan wrote:Gotta say, not a huge fan of the labeling people thing. With very few exceptions, it seems better to me to be able to judge posters not by the content of their character, but by the content of their posts, to mangle a wonderful quote by the good Dr. King. Also, I think 2dimes (among others) would bristle at the allegation that he's a social conservative (and further add that we're using American definitions of the term)
