There are multiple ways to use a knife and fork. As a left handed kid I instinctively used them "European style." It was only when I was much older that my parents looked at me and asked "Who taught you to use a knife and fork like that?"
Honestly, I don't know how my fellow Americans eat "American style" with all the swapping between the hands they do between cutting and eating.
