I live next to the high school and it was not a general reference. In fact, were this not an internet forum, I could give you some of their names.

.. on a better note, it is now summer and hopefully their driving skills will have improved. Then again, it does seem there is a new few every year. That's not ageism, either. It's just history that repeats and the law of percentages. Get a group of 100+ inexperienced drivers and at least one will grind gears.

Drivers who are in a real big hurry to make sure they get and stay in front of me, then suddenly are not in a hurry anymore. I try to pass them when it is safe, but I don't tailgate them.

Also tailgaters. You are willing to risk my life and yours because you don't know how long it takes for a 5,000 lb vehicle to stop, and because you think you are James Bond with the reflexes of Spiderman, and you think I'm going to speed like you because you pressure me. Ha! I slow down to a crawl when I am being tailgated. (until it is safe for passing, then I slide to the right and let them go tailgate somebody else. As Dave Barry says, "'teaching someone a lesson' doesn't work. But it feeeeels so good.

Actually, it is about the only SAFE thing that you can do. Slow down until they do have room to stop in the distance they leave.
It also "encourages" them to pass you and just be gone.

What grinds my gears? Trucks, particularly log trucks on rural roads that think they have the right to speed because they are making money (as opposed to those tourists who, according to them, have no rights) OR who think they should play "chicken", actually shove Forest Service employees off the road because they are angry about some decision the Forest Supervisor or others made. They give the honest/decent drivers/loggers a bad name .. and result in MORE tightening of rules.

(and note-- I mean accidents that have put more than a few into the hospital, plus cost taxpayers money to repair damaged vehicles.).
