Millions, not hundreds. It was entirely right that hitler is back (or what ever he was called was banned. His forum posts were vilely offensive in the extreme calling for genocide and ethnic cleansing against certain sections of society is beyond the pale. Whether this is a business or not - language such as that is unacceptable. If espousing racial hatred is what people want to talk about go to a Klan meeting not here.

(I don't intend to associating you with his views)

Thankfully Lack and the Mods took a stronger view on this type of abuse and I feel the forums are better for it. It doesn’t stifle discussion, merely gives us a platform to talk without fear of unacceptable abuse.

This site is played on by children and there should be some guidelines. Espically concerning Usernames which is a easy remedy. LAckattack not recently banned a guy for having a nazi avatar. So what? I dont care if the nazi's killed 100's of jews. Who cares!!

But in a nut shell someone cared and lack attack saw fit to get the bloke to change his avatar.

So how liberal are we now?

It's lack's site. He imposes whatever guidelines as he wishes on it since it's his property. But he allows people to post here, writing their opinions. You wrote yours, I did the same. But at the end of the day, it's lack's call and I see no reason why I should question it. If I in the future would become very annoyed about the way the site is run, I would express my opinion by leaving.

So far though, I'm very happy with the way the mods are handling the forums.

For the record though, I personally find your Anti-Semitic opinion expressed above to be very offensive.

Actually, under legal and philosophical theories underpinning free speech, there’s no prerequisite that a statement should have a “useful purpose”. However, that doesn’t mean that all speech is free, for example defamation is banned since the law weighs the protection of one person’s right to free speech against the possible harmful result of that speech to another person.

But to quote Justice Brennan, “If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the Government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable."

Dancing Mustard wrote:O Rly? Why's that then? Doesn't look like you actually explain that somewhat bold statement anywhere in your post.
But allow me to elaborate anyway, if you're just using your right to talk in order to make other people's lives miserable, who not stop you? I mean, you make a proposition there, but you don't back it up. So far as I can see there is no moral harm in preventing people exercising their rights for no purpose other than to cause harm/discomfort to others. Rights entail levels of responsibility, and in this case those responsibilities would be being breached. Censure seems entirely appropriate.

Again, actually, under legal and philosophical theories underpinning freedom of speech and freedom of expression, there’s no prerequisite that those rights must be exercised in a “responsible manner”. Doing that would undermine those bedrock freedoms to an unacceptable degree.

Also again, since the law weighs the protection of one person’s right to free speech against the possible harmful result of that speech to another person, you are usually not allowed to verbally or literally attack other individuals. Defamation and slander limits free speech here.

I don’t see your point really. All I’ve seen in this thread are people feeling offended by a certain username. Except for your idea to terrorize another player, bullying him into leaving, I’ve read nothing about anyone harassing other players. And here, on the one hand, you say that you agree with me when stating that there’s no right not to be offended. On the other hand, you write as well that you see no harm banning expressions that causes discomfort to others. You can’t have it both ways.
Dude, you are unreal. CC is not the freaking US Govt. CC is a club. As I mentioned before, there is significant precedent for clubs choosing to govern appropriate behavior. Hell, there's significant precedent for clubs having discriminating policies, so really, telling someone they can't use an offensive screen name is really pretty small. Hardly the watershed issue you are claiming it to be.

Children are becoming more and more over-sheltered. I'm not looking forward to the future generations of people who think they can succeed in anything and don't understand the consequences of failure. I can only hope I'm dead by then. If this site flies in the face of the trend towards the overprotection of children then I am even more proud to be a part of it then I was.

I couldn't agree more. I think these days the single-best favor a parent can do for their kids is to force them to watch every single episode of South Park. At least that would teach them that all claims of absolute truths can be questioned (besides the obvious benefit of increasing their vocabularies with quite a few curses).

Lots of people are busted outside the Cheating & Abuse Forum, so wicked or a multi hunter could have done a quick search of him, and busted him without anyone knowing.

Alsetergan i feel that u need some back-up man since i support ur views 100%. Ok everyone we realize that the name queerkiller as well as others is offensive. The point is that just because some1 offends u doesnt mean u should go bitching about it. I personally find the whole politically correct thing to be rediculous. To illustrate my point, i'm going to tell u all a story my dad told me. It's about a guy who was singing a rap song that contianed the word nigger in it at work. Although it was clear he was singing the song, (Which was popular in like the 80's) he was fired for using the word nigger. Although i know that nigger is offensive, i can guarante u that if it were a black man singing the song nothing would have happened. This personally offends me that there are so many double standards in our world. But I dont go yelling around the forumns about the injustice. Just suck it up and put such players that use inappropriate names on ur ignore list if ur bothered. Because in reality, u can find some1 who is offended by ANYTHING!

Another one for Rahm is a law firm that got in trouble for saying they hired a black man because he was articulate. By which they meant that he didn't sound black. The black man was very upset and tried to sue the firm. One of the arguments the person who called him articulate used was that if someone was kidnapped and the kidnapper called him, and the police asked him if he could identify anything about the kidnapper by his voice, and to him the person sounded black, should he not say so?

I know I got that from Boston Legal, but I still love it. Both for the ridiculous of what offended the potential hire and of the whole situation in general.

Quite.

I would like to add my name to the support of a policy. It really is unacceptable to create usernames designed to offend other players.

I agree with the username policy. Offensive usernames are something we could do without. However, with everything else that goes on, creating a no swearing policy is a ridiculous idea.

There isn't anyone with enough time to police it. You would have to monitor all the game chats, every forum thread, it's just not feasible. It's not something you can make a rule about and then only crack down on those who get reported, its an all or nothing type of thing and I don't think the resources are in place yet to put that type of thing into action.

I don't swear hardly at all. I have in a couple game over my time here, but rarely at best. I can also see the uproar that would arise if you tried to eliminate Flame Wars, which is what you are doing if you eliminate swearing on this site.

We'll deal with offensive usernames on a case-by-case basis, but generally I want to avoid taking action because of the reasons put forward here (keeping CC liberal and avoiding a slippery slope).

I think there is only one or two cases where I censored a username and it's pretty much because Death To All lobbied for it

I have a 13 year old son who i play real life risk with. I would love to introduce him to this site and even buy him premium. But I ask you lack, what sort of parent would I be if I exposed him to the language used in this game.

I know the offending guy has been busted, but that was for being a multi not for offensive behaviour.

Quit Arguing. Wicked has said it, and now lack.

We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. This guy is a multi. Everyone wins. No username censorship, but he's still band.

This website might not be appropriate for a 13 year old. We don't cater to that crowd and we are liberal about what's allowed. However a 13 year old on the web has access to all sorts of stuff far worse than what you find on Conquer Club. I don't feel qualified to advise you this parenting decision.

Or just kills people in strange ways.

I mean, that would be ok wouldn't it?

Just killing people in unusual ways. That's not offensive is it?

Or killing/subduing whole nations to achieve world domination. That's not offensive is it?

[Please note the above is intended as humour. It may not be very funny. But I am not serious. Please do not start a thread about this response.]

This has turned into a circus....

Im all for flame wars as most of you probably know.

People know what they are gonna find in there when they enter and thats Lack's call if he wants his website loosing potential customers (albeit $20 is nothing and hardly a business)

However, its very easy for the mods to find time to check everyday new users and if there are very offensive names such as Queer killer to kindly ask user to change...Thats all , very simple!!!

And to those who came into this thread and stringed 2 sentences together and about whinning bitches. Well done and thanks for the wonderful input into a very civilised and interesting discussion.
