I was more confused by the word "overstatement". What is he saying, are all roles pretty much the same? Are people not enjoying their role? Did he mean "understatement"?

I think he meant "the above statement"? That said, why would he so happily confirm that some roles will are more enjoyable than others? What does he know? Unless he was just confirming that he will enjoy his role... And why would a non-gray character be scum?
