The fact of the matter is: Xians and other religions have their religious texts and figure heads that they believe in and trust (as well as a few other things they consider to be facts, but we're not getting into that...) and atheists dismiss all these texts and figureheads as myths and so they go with the only logical conclusion that when we die, we rot in the ground.
So your saying that you choose to be an Atheist because you dismiss religious texts and "figure heads." Therefore nothing happens when you die, you just cease to exist. I have a question to follow that though, what if you are wrong?
Like I said in the "question to atheists thread"
REASON! You can't make a case for God by saying "well atheists might be wrong therefore God exists." It doesn't work, it gives atheists something to chuckle at "hahaha look another Christian with blind faith", and it frustrates me to death!
Sorry 116Soldier, didn't mean to rant, I'm just hearing these arguments all the time and I'm metaphorically tearing my hair out
"The Nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."
Not that I can enjoy such a thing myself, but I think it's probably not a bad thing.
If you're going to devote your life to something, it helps to know why.
Not to mention it loses credibility to those whose faith isn't so blind.

116Soldier never said that the fact that athiesm may be wrong justifies the existence of God. He is merely comparing the opportunity cost of believing for athiests and christians. read more carefully before ranting
it is something to think about... if atheism is correct, then we all die, we dont gain anything.. but if atheism is wrong, some of us will lose and others will gain everything.

So you're saying there's something wrong with a person that lived her/his live for Jesus unless they questioned it?
Certainly not the wording I would use. But I do think that anyone who has a belief should know why s/he believes it beyond "my parents told me".

there's something wrong with a person who has to conduct their life based on what someone else says or does rather than work it out themselves...why can't they figure out for themselves what's a healthy, appropriate, productive and acceptable way to lead their life and treat other people without having to model it on someone who might never have existed...no actually some people do need some help on this and modelling their behaviour based on a good example (whether it's a not real person or a real person) is necessary for some people who need all the help they can get
There's a comedy programme on BBC radio called Old Harry's Game which is set in Hell. One of the chambers in Hell is the "Pope enclosure" where all the popes are kept 8 1/2 months pregnant as a punishment for their stance on contraception.
