Ukraine has carried out large-scale drone strikes against several air bases deep inside Russia, destroying multiple combat planes, according to the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU).

The operation, dubbed “Spiderweb,” comes on the eve of expected peace talks in Istanbul between Russia and Ukraine, and involved the most ambitious simultaneous strikes on Russian air bases carried out by Ukraine since the war began.

Poland scrambled its own and Nato air defences, shooting down at least three drones, as Russia’s attack on Ukraine spread to Nato territory early on Wednesday in the most significant way since the full-scale invasion more than three years ago.

In the aftermath, Warsaw said Nato allies had made concrete proposals to bolster the country’s air defences. The UK is considering deploying Typhoon jets as part of an enhanced air policing mission to protect the alliance’s eastern flank.

There had been at least 19 violations of Polish airspace overnight, said Tusk, and some of them had entered Poland from Belarusian territory. Four Polish airports, including the two that serve Warsaw, were closed to traffic during the incursion.

Russia might be doing a similar move here. Sending drones and Mig-31s into Eastern Europe. Causing Poland and Estonia to recall or hoard air defense batteries (like the Patriot) which are much needed in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a senior Russian official offered guarded reactions to President Donald Trump's proposal to end Moscow's war in Ukraine.

Speaking in his nightly address on Nov. 20, Zelenskyy said that American military officials currently in Ukraine had presented "their vision" for securing a peace deal and that his country was carefully studying the proposals.

"From the first days of the war, we have upheld one very simple position: Ukraine needs peace. A real peace − one not broken by a third invasion," Zelenskyy said, adding that he expected to speak with Trump in the coming days.
