Cartoons!

Post by Mutley. »

This thread is simply for people to show devotion to classic cartoons, nothing modern: That stuff sucks.

--

Personally, I find Wacky Racers pretty damn hard to beat. It's fucking amazing!

I'm pretty sure her back would instantly collapse as every disc in her spine was crushed under the weight of those mammoth mammaries.

Bugs Bunny... the first adult cartoon comedy. I get much more appreciation for the cartoons now than when I was a youngster.

I'm also partial to G.I. Joe and Transformers (the 1980s versions).

Manga are comics. You can't really compare them to cartoons. I think what you're refering to is anime, in which case I kinda agree... There are some great animes though, like Akira, NGE, ... uh... well there are some besides those... not many...

About old cartoons though.. Flintstones: yech! Really, it might have been funny in the 50:s, to see a pelican as a cement mixer, or a parrot as a record player... but by now that stuff is so old and cliche and not in a good way... It's simply not that funny anymore.

I really like old Donald ducks though. The parts where Donald goes all apeshit at whatever... hilarious.

This was my favourite, and when I bought the DVD set, it was still amazingly good.

Does anyone remember an old cartoon with a Minute Man being tormented by Benedict Arnold?? This has been driving me nuts. I can picture it my head, the minute man was this little short scrawny guy and Arnold was this huge guy. No one yet knew Arnold was a traitor but he kept fouling things up. I seem to remember George Washington occasionally showing up. Someone help me please. I think it was Hanna Barberra but I can't find it.

Maybe not in your neighbourhood.

On the other foot I know many people who feel the same way as me about flintstones.

Pink panther is awesome though. They just showed a couple episodes on TV today. It really has everything a cartoon needs. The music is so classic, it's fits the mood of the cartoon well... And that big nosed guy who is always harrassin on the panther... what's up with that guy? The best part is that the pink panther doesn't speak... No "funny" cartoon voice for him... he let's his actions (and thought bubbles) speak for themselves...

Mom had to drag me out of bed on weekdays, but I woke at 7 am on the dot on Saturday morning. On the living room floor with my blanket and a bowl of cereal. Man, them were the days!

My faves in order (although I may have to re-arrange)

1. Looney Tunes - so good on so many levels
2. Jonny Quest - I am Race Bannon
3. Pink Panther - I just loved that cool cat
4. Scooby Doo (original only, none of that scrappy doo doggy crap)
5. Jetsons - Why don't we have flying cars yet?
6. Flintstones - Honeymooners cartoon, I always thought.

Some of the supporting stuff on the Rocky & Bullwinkle show: Commander McBragg was probably my favorite there.

And for live action The Land of the Lost - OK not a cartoon, but I really liked that one. We would play land of the lost outside for hours.

Man this thread is really making me regret growing up.

Say what you will about modern anime, but I grew up watching Toonami on Cartoon Network. Dragon Ball Z still is something I love.

Besides that, I really liked Tom and Jerry and Wile E. Coyote vs. Road Runner. There's something about the wacky chase with minimal dialogue that I love.

I too grew up with DBZ, but also many of the shows that ser stiefel listed, along with Alvin & the Chipmunks (50s and 80s shows).

Born in '91, I was a Nickelodeon kid. Although I watched some of the shows that were already mentioned occasionally, I was never really "into" them. My favorites were:

1. Rocco's Modern Life
2. Hey! Arnold
3. Rugrats
4. Doug

EDIT: Forgot Doug. How can you forget Doug?!?!?!

Scooby-Doo!! How could I have forgotten that? Love it ;o)

I also like all the Nick stuff personally (Rocko was great....Thornberrys, Rugrats, etc etc), but we are discussing the oldies!

I've grown up watching a lot of these cartoons, but Looney Tunes is the only one I can really appreciate after some years have passed. And G.I. Joe, only because I haven't seen any cartoons in years--can't ruin those good old feelings, now can I??

I remember Captain Planet, and that useless puke with the heart ring.
Thunder, Thunder!, THUNDER CATS! HO!!! was occasionally fun to watch.
Gargoyles... Yeah that too.
Samurai Pizza Cats was strange, but also good.
Ranma 1/2 was good too.
And what was that cartoon about those 2 cats who flew jets or drove some cool car or something like that? They wore "badass" jumpsuits.
Ah, and Sonic, and the Mario Brothers (but after recently watching them, I was pretty dissappointed in myself for watching such crap--HO HO, just kidding).
