You need to be using clickies for this strategy. Make sure you take your turn last, then take as many territories/bonuses as possible. End your turn, leave the game open, and place some sort of weight on the "b" key ("begin turn" shortcut in clickies). As soon as one of your opponents begins their turn, yours will begin as well, giving you all the bonus troops immediately w/o worrying about wasting troops defending. Make sure you check your game at least once an hour, so you don't lose your troops. Since they started before you, they have to end before you, so you can continue this the rest of the game. Plus, they'll likely not realize what you're doing until it's too late.
it doesn't suck when your freemium. iv tried this tactic relying on the next person taking a turn doesnt attack me so this might be right up my street.
however this strategy may be sitting on the moral wall between fair and exploiting the the rules
your right, I meant to say the wall between bending the rules and plain cheating. technically Its not cheating but it is exploiting the freestyle game.
iv hit a quandary, I would never break the rules but this isn't breaking any rules is it?
What he is describing has been known by many of the regular freestyle players for a long time. Many players refer to is as auto-typing. I consider it cheating as many others do. I am purely speculating but I think the site would consider it cheating also but they have been reluctant to say so, my guess is because it is hard to prove that the other player is doing it unless they admit to it.

Nope. I reported it and got moderators to flat out approve of it. So, I decided to share the strategy with others.

I did not know of the approval. I dealt with this issue well over one year ago and basically got no answer. I am guessing they said it is okay simply because it can't be policed, but who knows.
Sorry for necro-ing such an old topic, but the strategy in the opening post is exactly I want to ask about.
How do you beat this strategy? I mean, I played several freestyle speed games and faced some players doing this. I tried various ways, but no one of them helped me to do anything significant against such players and thus I lost the games.
Is there any trick or "anti-strategy" for that kind of play?

Yeah, I use a AHK script for turn starting in important freestyle games. If anyone wants it send me a pm. Basically it just focuses on the window and presses b every 3 seconds or so. I'm not done programming it yet. It is my eventual plan to add many more super cool features. =D

I won a 5 player 3rd Crusade recently because of this script. =D

I don't think monkey doubts the effectivity of the said script.

My doing smarts?
I don't play freestyle because people like this have made it a joke. I posted this to educate others on how to keep up with the cheaters.
