Obama to Appoint Fat Woman to Supreme Court - US Thoughts?

MSNBC reports that Obama will appoint Solicitor-General Kagan to the Supreme Court - what do the Americans here think of that?

- Kagan is the first Solicitor-General in 225 years to not wear morning dress when arguing in front of the Supreme Court (she was too fat to fit into it).

- Kagan famously argued that anyone involved in terrorism should be subject to indefinite detention without a trial.

- Kagan was formerly dean of the Harvard Law School.

If you were a Senator, would you vote to confirm this appointment?

I am not an American, but were I a Senator I would vote NO. Considering the endemic obesity problem in America, puisine justices should not be as grossly fat as Kagan. They're role models.

Couldn't dig up much about her, except for some rumor that she's a lesbian. But as dean of that law school previously mentioned, she forbade military recruiters from opening shop there due to their discriminatory practice. Of course, the federal government told them "ok then no federal money," which quickly convinced them to concede.

Yeah, think of how much better the USA would have been had Ben Franklin been kept out of government because of his weight. Or George Washington, for being too tall. Or John Addams for being short. Abe Lincoln for too much facial hair, or not enough. FDR for having Polio.

She has little to no judicial experience. That IMO is the biggest reason she has not place in the SCOTUS.

Of course her being fat also IMO, but to a lesser degree, shows she [more than likely, allowing for the unlikely thyroid condition] doesn't put a high priority on her own health which is a bad thing for someone expected to hold a seat in the highest court in the country.

Obama did a smart thing by nominating someone who won't have previous court decisions that people can complain about. But the President usually gets his way anyhow when it comes to Supreme Court picks. If the first one gets defeated then that almost assures that whoever is 2nd in line will become a justice. Even the opposition party has people who go along on the vote when it comes time to confirm.

That's actually a more recent phenomena for the Supreme Court, probably mostly to do with the shift from Constitutional Law to Case Law.
