New York,Rome,Alexandia,London,Paris,Athens,Jerusalem,moscow and the list goes on ,what in your opinion is the most important city we have ever known that has shaped the the way the world works?its a pretty hard question,so a city and a reason please?i will go for alexandria at the moment,it bridged east and west,brought the best minds in the world together,so name your city and give a reason,think this could be intresting to see what people think

It all depends on the meaning of important. I would have to say Troy.

No not that Troy, I’m talking about Troy New York. It’s very important. No really.

A famous meat inspector lived there, Samuel Wilson, but everyone called him “Uncle.” That’s important, isn’t it? I mean his image is everywhere these days!

Then there was that engineer, George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., a graduate of a local engineering school which is equally very important as well, who was so inspired by the worlds largest wooden water wheel (in this very important city) that he invented an amusement ride for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Now its almost everywhere, so that’s got to be really important!

Then of course there was the invention that changed the world, the detachable shirt collar from Cluett Peabody & Company of Troy, New York.



Now that has to be important!

First of all it was the center of the Roman Empire, then for over 1,000 years it ruled the world as the center of the Catholic Church. Technichally speaking that would be Vatican City for the second part but Rome is where Vatican City is, amirite?

Jihad, the crusades.... For thousands of years control of the city has been contested by the world's major powers. Empires have risen and fallen in pursuit of this city.

It's one of the most sacred sites for all three of the worlds great monotheistic religions (almost half the world's population) and even today the fate of Jerusalem will profoundly affect the world..

The city could very well be the fuse which ignites the world's next great war.
