Best Baseball Moment Ever

There are, of course, dozens of awesome moments to choose from; Willie Mays over the shoulder catch, Buckner letting the ball roll through his legs, and more recently, David Wright (see my name) catching a Texas Leaguer bare-handed. But my favorite, by far, is Kirby Puckett's jumping catch in 1991 to save a run, then later in the game, hitting a walk-off homer to win it and send the Twinkies to game 7, where they beat the hated Braves. When the red sox won the ws in 04 was a good one, however Maglio Ordonez's walk off with 2 outs to put the Tigers in the World Series last year was my favorite. I was with a ton of my friends and we went crazy for at least 10 minutes, then stopped just in time to watch The Penn St. -Michigan game I was sooooo-> happy

Pretty much my top 10 baseball moments all come from the 2002 playoffs, when the Angels won the world series. There's the basic 'final out of game 7', the 'troy glaus double that put the halos ahead in the glorious game 6', the 'spiezo home run that started the rally in that same game 6', the 'three-run homer by adam kennedy off of johan santana that basically iced the alcs'...

But perhaps the best moment, especially as regards the years AFTER 2002, was the first time Francisco Rodriguez came into a playoff game and made the yankees look like little leaguers. K-Rod's the MAN.

Mark McGwire's 62nd home run in a single season to break the record. He still holds the single season record to this day of 70, yes I ignore that illegal steroid-user named Barry Bonds.

That was a terrific day, wasn't it?

But my favorite was when the Tigers eliminated the Yankees in the previous series. Partly, because I'm a Yankee hater, and to have my hometown Tigers beat 'em was great, but also because of the celebration after the game, the way the players stormed the field, spraying the fans with champagne, Kenny Rogers going rock star standing on the dugout roof, pouring bubbly on a State cop... greatest game ever!

Hell no, a Michigan game. We beat Penn State 17-10 and injured 2 of their QB's( Allen Branch is a beast)

Being the Red Sox fan I am, I did love it when they won the series.

But my favorite was when the Sox came back from a 0-3 game deficit against the Yanks. I believe that they're the only team, liek, ever, in the history of sports to do that.

Braves hated? Maybe in the NL East, but overall? That just sounds too far fetched to me. I'd actually love to see the braves in the playoffs because I know they always choke (And this is coming from a Braves fan).

My favorite moment (Well more like moments) was each of those 4 games where the Red Sox rallied back to beat the despised, loathed, and overall hated Yankees to advance to the world series (which they won) after falling back 3 games to none.

I know next to nothing about baseball, but the best moment I'd pick is when that fan caught the ball and stopped his team winning the cup (was it the Cubs?) a few years back. I remember seeing on TV he was the most hated man in the city and had to stop going to games due to the death threats. I'm sure you guys will correct the details of the story.

Oh... and McGwire broke the record fair and square? Didn't he admit to taking some sort of artificial growth hormone? Seems the Hall of Fame decided to ignore him for just that reason....

My pick for best baseball moment...Kirk Gibson's home run against the A's in the World Series with two busted legs.

I had a feeling you'd show up here. Let me tell you, I was physically at that Game 7, and I was in crappy seats in the left field upper deck, and there were a bunch of giants fans sitting behind me, and they left the stadium awful quietly.

I don't mean to boast, but it was one of the great moments of my sports-fan life. Maybe THE great moment, because the Lakers win championships with some regularity, but the Angels... man, oh, man, I'd been waiting for them to win a title since I was like eight.

Okay, lemme clarify the Steve Bartman incident...

2003 Marlins vs Cubs, Cubs up by a couple, only a few outs away from going to the WS. Luis Castillo(Marlins) hits a fly ball down the left field line. Moises Alou(Cubs) chases it down near the ivy and jumps to catch it. At the same time, Steve Bartman reaches out and snatches it right before Alou caught it. Pandumonium accours, Bartman has2b esscorted out... Meanwhile, Castillo and Los Marlinos, given new life, rally together and, with the help of some Cubs errors, win the game, the NLCS, and eventually the WS!

I was at a Cubs game back in the mid-80's and saw Andre Dawson get beaned pretty severely by Eric Show of the Padres. The donnybrook that ensued is generally considered one of the most intense and violent of that era. Certainly not a "great" baseball moment (there are just too many of those for me to choose just one

) but without a doubt a very memorable one. I was around 9 years old at the time, and I remember actually being a little scared!

You do relize that he wasn't the only one reaching for that foul ball, there was at least 5 others reaching for it, he just happened to come down with it

My favorite moment was when the Brewers (yes the Brewers) won the 1982 ALCS and went to the world series (only time there, went up 3-2 over the Cardnails, and eventually lost
