I was working in the computer field before www came out.

i was lucky enough to have a family that (although usually late in picking up early technology) got the internet fairly early. i've heard this sound more often than i care to remember.

That sound was going on long before the Internet came around. I miss the old Bulletin Board Systems.

When I was young we played with sticks and pine cones. The village had only one well and everyone was given a beating on sundays just to keep us on our toes.

Yeah we used to have "HBO" which was a huge antenna for just one movie channel and we had to hook up our ataris with a screw driver, and dual tape players with a record function was a must have.
I recall playing Zork 'online' back in the early 1980s via a very old fashioned modem. You would pick up your phone, dial a number and place the handset on a base station that also connected to your computer (then an Atari, can't remember which model) . The famous words would come up on your 12 or 14 inch monitor:
West of House You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.
Those were the days...pencils and A3 paper at the ready you would start creating the map while you followed the screen's instructions...
Due to current economic conditions the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off

Almost 3 times as old (53). Cable TV, Personal computers, even hand-held calculators, VCR's (remember the "betamax?), microwave ovens, all new inventions to me. One of my first memories is coming home from Kindergarten to hear that President Kennedy had been shot.
The right answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer to the real question.
I still remember waiting over a half hour to load Galactic Empire from my cassette drive to my Atari 400 "computer".
Now I get pissed when a game takes more than a minute.
Also still remember my families first color TV and all 3 channels that it got which you had to get up to change. Also remember following the cable company workers up and down my street on my bike when they were installing it, pestering them constantly, they must have wanted to kill me.
