1 (9) Packers 10-6 While other teams stockpiled free agents, the Packers stood pat. Are the defending champs still preseason favorites? (Walker)
2 (1) Patriots 14-2 Too bad "Hard Knocks" couldn't film the daily Albert Haynesworth-Chad Ochocinco show. (Clayton)
3 (7) Eagles 10-6 Only one thing will make this season a success -- winning the franchise's first Vince Lombardi Trophy. (Fox)
4 (5) Saints 11-5 Saints will find out whether Reggie Bush was an underrated contributor after all. (Sando)
5 (3) Steelers 12-4 With off-field distractions behind them, the reigning AFC champs are focused on getting back to the Super Bowl. (Walker)
6 (2) Falcons 13-3 Adding Ray Edwards quiets draft-day criticisms about ignoring pass rush. (Sando)
7 (8) Jets 11-5 So far, they have replaced Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith with only Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason. (Clayton)
8 (10) Colts 10-6 Provided Peyton Manning is healthy, don't write off the Colts. They have healed up and even added outsiders. (Kuharsky)
9 (4) Ravens 12-4 The Ravens can go as far as fourth-year QB Joe Flacco is willing to take them. (Walker)
10 (14) Chargers 9-7 Every year looks promising, then they wind up short of expectations. It's time for Philip Rivers to be grouped with the elite. (Kuharsky)
11 (12) Giants 10-6 Missing the playoffs for a second consecutive year is not an option for Tom Coughlin. (Fox)
12 (13) Buccaneers 10-6 It starts with the quarterback, and Tampa Bay has a good one in Josh Freeman. (Sando)
13 (6) Bears 11-5 The loss of longtime center Olin Kreutz will hurt Chicago's running game. (Walker)
14 (11) Chiefs 10-6 Big breakthroughs are often followed by a step back. Can the Chiefs buck that trend? (Kuharsky)
15 (17) Rams 7-9 Sam Bradford, Josh McDaniels a compelling combination for the Rams. (Sando)
16 (18) Cowboys 6-10 It will be interesting to see Rob Ryan's effect on the Cowboys' defense. (Fox)
17 (21) Texans 6-10 Always a darling preseason pick. Could it be the year? Sure. Could it be another failure with people getting fired? Sure. (Kuharsky)
18 (24) Lions 6-10 The Lions have "sleeper" written all over them, but only if quarterback Matthew Stafford stays healthy. (Walker)
19 (19) Seahawks 7-9 Sidney Rice, Zach Miller give Seattle needed weapons in passing game. (Sando)
20 (20) Titans 6-10 Don't buy that they will be contenders for Andrew Luck. Mike Munchak will squeeze something out of the Titans. (Kuharsky)
21 (28) Cardinals 5-11 Kevin Kolb's arrival restores hope at quarterback, but time will tell whether Kolb's the answer. (Sando)
22 (16) Jaguars 8-8 Defense will be better for sure. The question is whether David Garrard can play with consistency. (Kuharsky)
23 (15) Raiders 8-8 The Raiders are on the rise if Jason Campbell can play consistently. You have to like Hue Jackson's energy. (Kuharsky)
24 (22) Dolphins 7-9 If the Dolphins can't get Brett Favre to challenge Chad Henne, maybe they can ask Dan Marino. (Clayton)
25 (23) Vikings 6-10 Minnesota actually got younger at quarterback by acquiring 34-year-old Donovan McNabb. (Walker)
26 (25) 49ers 6-10 Widespread changes on defense raise questions about 49ers' short-term prospects. (Sando)
27 (29) Broncos 4-12 I fear the first year of the John Fox regime will be a long, ugly one filled with Tim Tebow-related controversy. (Kuharsky)
28 (27) Browns 5-11 If QB Colt McCoy isn't the answer, it will be another long season in Cleveland. (Walker)
29 (26) Redskins 6-10 In a few more weeks, Mike Shanahan might wish he had kept Donovan McNabb. (Fox)
30 (32) Panthers 2-14 Carolina came out swinging in free agency, but future hinges on Cam Newton. (Sando)
31 (30) Bills 4-12 The Bills' offensive line can't afford an injury, but it would look better had it added Tyson Clabo. (Clayton)
32 (31) Bengals 4-12 The Bengals are moving on from the Carson Palmer-Chad Ochocinco era, but expect plenty of growing pains with young players. (Walker)
No way on the Redskins. The NFC East is way too stacked. They'll be lucky if they win 2 division games this year. Kolb just has to be mediocre for the Cards to win the NFC West and the Vikings should be good but the NFC North is pretty deep this year too, so they're in trouble.
The Chargers are too high in my opinion as well (though, this is coming from a Broncos fan). Rivers is a cunt and is completely over-rated.

you think the jaguars, raiders, dolphins, sea hawks, and browns are better than the redskins?

I would disagree completely with the last point, almost to say Rivers is underrated. He was missing V-Jax for the first 3/4 of the season, and lost Antonio Gates and Ryan Mathews for extended period, yet every week putting up huge numbers throwing to Malcolm Floyd, Seyi Ajirotutu, and Legedu Naanee... Just was 2nd in the league in passing yards behind the MVP Tom Brady, not sure how overrated he can be...

Very over-rated
Yeah, he's no Kyle Orton...

Packers are perfectly ranked, they're getting back Clark, Finley on offense, and I can't even name the rest of the players they didn't have while winning the super bowl. James Jones and Jordy Nelson will replace the aging Donald Driver this year at some point, although all 3 are good enough to play next to Jennings and make sure they have solid options for Rodgers.
As for the skins, I love em, think the ranking might be a tad low, but you really have to wait and see. I've been impressed by Rex in the preseason, but that's what happens. Run game looks legit though.
It's odd to see Power Rankings before the first real game is even played. The Pack should be good even in a tough NFC North Go Lions!and it's hard to imagine the Vikes at #25 with McNabb at QB.
Rivers is one of the best QBs in the NFL, so how can he be overrated? Any team with a rookie QB will need a lot of luck to be contenders as the short training camp hasn't done them any favors.
Week 1
NO @ GB PIT @ BAL ATL @ CHI
CIN @ CLE
IND @ TEX
TEN @ JAX
BUF @ KC PHI @ STL DET @ TB
CAR @ ARZ
MIN @ SD SEA @ SF NYG @ WAS DAL @ NYJ NE @ MIA OAK @ DEN
As much as I hate rivers for being a little bitch AoG, being the broncos fan myself, I think this year the chargers will finally get their shit together, also those power ranking are a little old since they dont mention things like Garrard being released
I'd bet that Stafford plays at least 12 games this season and that the Lions make the playoffs if he get's at least 12 games in. So I'd bump up Detroit a bit.
As for the redskins, an unexciting QB, unexciting WR's outside of Santana Moss, a TE coming back from injury, and not a real intimidating Defense. So, no, not impressed. If Grossman was a half decent quarterback, he's been in the league long enough by now to have showcased that.
I think Jackson is too inconsistent at QB to justify the Seahawks being ranked higher than Arizona. Fitzgerald may only be 1 man, but Kolb is a couple of tiers above Jackson in my book.
As for my 49er's, I'd love to be more optimistic, but I'd be very happy if they went 6-10 this year. If Alex Smith was worthy of being a #1 Pick, he's had enough chances to prove it. If the Niners sign Garrard, then I'd give them an outside shot at contending for the division. Otherwise, better luck next year.

Just so you know, and I'm not saying he's good or anything, but Grossman was half decent enough to take the Bears to the Super Bowl in 2006 (or 05, can't remember), and he's been in the league for about 7 or 8 seasons I think.
As long as Rodgers stays healthy, the Pack has got to be favored to repeat, they made the Saints look bad last night. That rookie WR looked pretty good, one more weapon at Rodgers' disposal.

Could also be that they had a Top-5 defense that year and a solid running game. That's like giving Trent Dilfer credit for taking the Ravens to a Super Bowl: both he and Grossman did just enough not to lose the games.

"Looking bad" like having a last-second attempt to tie the game at the one-yard line stuffed? I'm no Saints fan (bit of a Pack hater) but if that made the Saints look bad, I've never seen a losing team look good.
Two defenses that were good last year got "passed over" last night
and both teams QBs are every bit as good as advertised.
The Packers played a near perfect game to get past the Saints and
I can only figure New Orleans thought Green Bay might expect a pass
on that final play, since the Pack defense had stuffed the run on nearly
every big play of the game.
That 1st quarter fumble and kickoff return made all the difference
in an otherwise tight game. To New Orleans credit they never gave
in and were just one play away from having the opportunity to send
the game into overtime.
Green Bay had to be shocked watching Brees drive the Saints to the
Packers one yard line in the final minute... and they sold out on the
final play with everyone crowding the box.

Yea, but you could argue that he performed better than the other 4 defenses in the top 5.

Nah, that'd be too easy. I'd rather the Broncos beat the living shit out of him.
Rivers is very mediocre. He's been gifted with a first ballot HoF running back, and eventual HoF tight end and some very talented recievers (despite being without Jackson). His throwing motion reminds me of a mentally-handicapped 3 year old girl.

Besides, the Bears has NO wide receivers.
Neither do the Redskins. Santana Moss is good, but he won't beat a double team consistently. And with Cooley banged up, who is he going to throw to? Checkdown to Tim Hightower every time?

I agree, even as a skins fan, that things could be better in many aspects of our game. My original point was merely to show you that he has been in the league long enough, and that he's obviously something more than half-decent if he's been around.
