NHL Season 2011-2012

Post by FoxMists »

For those obsessed with hockey as I am! :ugeek:

Who's ready?? Anyone in a hockey pool? Shall we start our own hockey pool somewhere? Any predictions? Who's your team?

I've been ready for hockey since the last season ended. There are only 3 season in my world. Hockey season :) , playoff season :D , and withdrawal season  . I'm in one hockey pool but I've been in the same league for ages and thinking of changing. I wouldn't be opposed to starting one for CC if y'all were interested. I use Yahoo! fantasy hockey mostly because it's conveniently linked from the NHL.com page.

Teams:

  • Vancouver Canucks
  • Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Carolina Hurricanes
  • Any CANADIAN team! w00t!! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

I like a lot of teams. Really though, teams I hate passionately are easier to point out. For example, I dare say that seeing the Philadelphia Flyers humiliated a couple seasons ago was most enjoyable  , even if I'm not a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. :)

So bring it boys 8-) Hockey season is about to start!

Looking forward to the season starting. Not because I think my team (the Senators) are going to be any good this year, but because the Jets are back where they belong (sorry Atlanta). Winnipeg is only a 7 hour drive (yes I live in the middle of no where) so being able to see a live game again is something I am looking forward to. Also TSN created a new channel for the Jets where they will show up to 60 games. I live in the broadcast area. Yay! Anytime you can get more hockey on TV I am happy.

Predictions for the year? Too hard to call right now. The Canucks will either be back with a vengeance... or take a huge step backwards like the Senators did a few years ago after making it to the finals. LA looks good though. Sharks will tank as usual come playoff time. In the East the Bruins will be hard pressed to repeat. Thomas will not have another season like that one. The Flyers got worse with losing Richards and Carter. The Pens will miss Crosby too much. As long as the Leafs miss the playoffs I will be happy.

Also my kids started up this weekend. Brought them to their first skate yesterday and heading to the rink in a half an hour for my girls. Hockey season makes the months from September to May bearable. Can't wait for my kids to start playing games and for the NHL to start up.

 Wow, you really do live in the middle of no where! I'm in Vancouver so I fully intend to be at the home opener vs. Pens :D :D :D =D> I grew up in North Carolina though (thus my loyalty to a team that doesn't deserve it) and I moved out the same year the Canes moved in. I grew up more or less without hockey on tv. I have some wicked scars from playing though.

I agree on most of your predictions. Some of the Canucks' moves made little sense to me. If something isn't working, you change it. THe definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results! (In all justice, this theory applies to most hockey clubs, I think.. :-s ) I'm excited to have the Jets back too, though I admit I pity any NHLer that has to live in Winnipeg winters! Our Vancouver winters are just right for me 8-)

Can't wait to have more Canadian teams again. Never should have left in the first place. As far as the Leafs go... well I have friends that are Leafs fans. I really consider it more of a mental disability of some sort rather than a choice. :-$ I humour them as much as I can and try to get them to lie down and rest when they get all worked up in a lather. (W00ddie may kick my ass for this :? )

I take it you don't do hockey pools? I should start brainstorming team names for this season... my league makes naming teams very difficult. :|

This is mostly a bump, don't have time to post much right now.
Glad Lidstrom is back for one more season. Was time for Osgood and Draper to retire, even though I'm sad to see them leave. Losing Rafalski is a blow, and White won't make up the difference. The Wings will probably spend money on D after this season, which should definitely be Lidstrom's last. Hope they can get him one more Cup on his way out.

Not sure if they would be moving to KC as a first choice. Devils are in trouble too. Quebec City is all a buzz about getting a new team...looking more and more possible.

Unfortunately, Wang isn't budging nor is the local government, though I would put more liability on the government. Previous to the economic downturn, the reasons holding things up were concerns over traffic and pollution and other zoning things. Now the county has used fiscal responsibility as a reason against the new stadium. Nonetheless, I do believe stadia (stadiums?) should be fully privately funded.

Kansas City has been a name circulating around the our fanbase for years, with one fan even making a T shirt and selling them for a fake team called the KC Tumbleweeds. But if anything it'd be the Kings moving there if they ever do, since AEG owns both the Kings and the KC stadium. The Winnipeg move shows that Bettmann and the owners are willing to back off their Southern strategy in favor of proven fanbases.

I don't see them moving to KC either. That's what made it so funny, honestly. I've love to see the Nordiques return, but I'm doubtful it will happen within the next few years. Bettman should still be shot, btw.

I don't live on Long Island, but if memory serves me correct, didn't Wang have a fully privatized development proposal called the Lighthouse Project that wasn't going to cost the taxpayers anything? Wasn't it killed by the local government because of the outcry by citizens against said proposal? Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that scenario was put forth a few years ago.

I'm almost certain you're right, keiths. Wang isn't totally to blame for Long Island's hockey woes.

Buttman is the worst ever , but maybe if one team from the east is moving it's gonna be probably KC first then Québec ( they already got the stadium ) the Nordiques will have to play 2 years in the old colisé.
you got Detroit and Columbus who both teams wanna be transfered in the eastern conference ( Detroit will be the first team to move to eastern conf. since the franchise is older than Columbus )
oh and girl how can you root for Carolina ?? ( it was a shame that they won a stanley cup ) anyway i'm a Montreal fan since i can remember so Montreal will finnish either 1st or 4th in the east ( that if all our players are in good physical condition ), either Boston or Montreal for the number 1 spot !!. Last year in the playoff we were at 1 goal from eliminating the Boston Bruins

Vancouver 1st in the east and let's all take a look at Columbus this year they improved the team during the summer, hopefully Detroit will not make the playoff.

P.S. = i really hate Boston ( and we got some assholes that live in Montreal that root for the Bruins ( i know they got no life ))

The NHL does a great job with it's commercials I must say.

On a related note. My Senators beat the Bruins 2-1 in OT last night. I know it's only the preseason and both teams were full of AHL players. The Bruins are sending theirs down though...whereas my Senators, well, they are likely going to be the team. So I'll take the win now as there won't be many of them this year I am afraid.

Toronto's looking strong, and I think that they've got a shot for the playoffs! I'd be interested in a hockey pool. Looking forward to the season, for sure. :D Though gridiron football's got all of my interest, so far.

Only 2 people are interested in the Hockey pool so far. If that's all we got, then it's not really feasible for a CC based one. Pity. It would have been fun! :)
