I don't know, I really don't trust them to be as good as everyone wants them to be. People love domination, especially in one-man sports, like Djokavic in tennis last year or Serena in her prime.whitestazn88 wrote:Man, Bubba and Rickey Fowler are going to be good in the years to come, and they bring as much fun to the game as tiger did when he was younger, if not more. The thing about tiger making golf popular was that he dominated, and did so as a huge minority. Now that golf is pretty much a mainstream sport, it doesn't need tiger to maintain its following.
But regardless of the viewership, golf is becoming more and more popular (as far as I can tell), and isn't that what is most important.Army of GOD wrote:I don't know, I really don't trust them to be as good as everyone wants them to be. I think most of the people who watch golf today are like me and are still hoping Tiger gets back to his old form. Now, Tiger is really the reason I got into golf, though I know I'm going to continue to watch golf post-Tiger. But I feel like overall, if this trend of "no one is allowed to win two majors" thing continues, golf's popularity is going to go down the poop chute.
Five top-5 finishes in 11 events in 2012 (and two wins)? Not exactly "pretty shitty". Any other golfer would love to do that.Army of GOD wrote:He's been pretty shitty this year though,
Actually, viewership and playing numbers have been dropping. I just tried finding the article with the stats that I read a few months ago but came up empty... The main reasoning behind the drops in playing numbers is the growing cost and time to play a round.whitestazn88 wrote:golf is becoming more and more popular (as far as I can tell), and isn't that what is most important.
yeah that's true. I have taken up golf, but never actually play a round cuz I don't want to spend $20 plus for greens fees, then 15+ for a cart (and the only times i've played, i've walked, with the exception of a free round+cart)Bones2484 wrote:Five top-5 finishes in 11 events in 2012 (and two wins)? Shitty compared to his previous career. Obviously any normal golfer would kill to have the year he's having, but I was really disappointed by his Masters finish (especially when he got tied for fourth the previous two years, despite all the shit he's been through).Bones2484 wrote:Five top-5 finishes in 11 events in 2012 (and two wins)? Unless someone else is paying, I never get a cart. It's not worth it and it's nice getting the exercise, haha. My theory is that if I hit the ball well, I'll just be walking straight the whole time and I really won't need a cart.whitestazn88 wrote:yeah that's true. Things people that get drunk when they attend golfing events say.
