Ah but you only joined yesterday. As recent as a month ago we had a different scoring system, with general as the top rank at 3000 points (with no field marshalls, Conquerors, Brigadiers, and a lot of the smaller ranks.) Score inflation is as such that it was necessary to bump up the ranks a bit. Also, more definition between player skills was needed. Check it out in the Announcements forum. This is really a very long answer cut very short - sorry.

P.S. Technically, Blitzaholic actually has reached the new General level (before the score changes) - he breached 4200 points! But, with his nearest rival 1000 below him he was always likely too come tumbling down sooner or later with such huge point losses.
