Northwest Passage is one of my favourites. You just have no taste.

It's not pretty, and I don't like it. But others I know find it a great map to play on all ugliness aside

It wouldnt be so bad, if there was any indication of what attacks what. No wonder new people who join CC gets so turned off. You get outside of the classic map and you get lost real fast.

I find the maps is good looking, but I agree with you here, I am totally unable to understand how that map works.
For this reason I like map like baltic state in which bonus and connections are very obvious.

Have people still not discovered this feature? It's kind of indispensable on multiple maps.

Well, there is tons of people that have no idea of the panel interface, and therefore do not know the map inspect.
But I don't find normal that we need map inspect to understand how a map works.

Plus, the map inspect doesn't work on all maps, Krazy Kingdoms for example.

Understanding getting around on Northwest Territories:
  • No territory contains both land and water, so every tert is either water or land. Therefore, a tert like Disko Island refers only to the island itself, not to the water around it, which is Disko Bay. All land is some shade of brown and all water is some shade of blue. You can tell the difference between different bonus areas if you pay attention to the different blues and browns.
  • Every piece of water is a slightly different shade of blue, so you can visually see the difference between Foxe Channel and Foxe Basin, for instance.
  • You can not cross the ice. So, even though Pangnirtung and Iqaluit are right next door to each other, they do not directly connect. If you are at Pangnirtung and you need to get to Iqaluit, you have to get back on your boat, and sail the waters of Cumberland Sound, then dock at Iqaluit and get off your boat. This is just like real life. If you just think about the realities of moving around in the north, this is the way it actually works. Places 50 miles apart might as well be on another planet if there's an ice sheet in the way. Moving around by open water is the convenient way.
  • All the land areas with the same colour land are part of the same bonus area, even if they don't connect. So, the three land bases on Ellesmere Island (Alert, Eureka, and Jones Sound) are the same shade of brown. They are part of the same bonus even though they don't directly connect. They are a slightly different shade of brown than other nearby land areas which are not on Ellesmere Island, such as Axel Heisberg Island, which is one of the Sverdrup Islands and not on Ellesmere, so even if you don't have Map Inspect turned on, you can visually see the difference if you pay attention to the slightly different browns that are used.
  • Most water passages are not bonus zones unless they are part of an explorer's route. Mainly the water is a way to move around.
  • The explorer's routes are marked with lines (purple for Hudson, red for Franklin, cyan for Perry, yellow for Amundsen, blue for McClure). Every explorer's route gives a bonus for every two spots along the route that you hold, even if they aren't connected. So, you can hold Devon Island and Davis Strait and collect +1 for having 2 places on Franklin's route, even though they are not connected. Explorers' routes contain a lot of water terts, but they also contain land terts (places where the explorers camped out, such as King William Island, where Amundsen spent not just one but two winters, 1903 to 1904 and 1904 to 1905!)
  • Many places were visited by more than one explorer, so they have multi-coloured circles around them to clarify that. Disko Island was used only by Franklin, so its circle is completely red. Disko Bay, however, was sailed through by both Franklin and Amundsen, so it has both yellow and red in its circle. Baffin Bay was use by Amundsen and Franklin and Parry, so it has a three-coloured circle, red and yellow and cyan.
Like other people have said, use Map Inspect. I'm really familiar with the Northwest Passage map, but I still use Map Inspect most of the time. Still, I can find my way around on this map without it. Not like All Your Base, which even with Map Inspect I still can't figure out.

WWII Poland is the one map I would f&^king obliterate if I could kill one map and one only, but there are others that suck too.

I really like USA2.1...its one of my favorite maps.

I guess it just shows that people have all kinds of tastes in maps.

I am surprised by your choice of map to obliterate, WWII Poland is relatively easy to play.
Is it based on the esthetic or on the gameplay ??

I hate the graphic of Portland, that's the only one I'd like to see disappear.

But I used to think the same about Philadelphia and now I love the map ^^

I hate maps where there is really only one correct way to play, it all comes down to luck if both sides play it correctly. I also hate having to take the time to learn to play a map of that sort correctly. Before I was in the clan world I would just laugh and avoid maps that required that sort of thing...now I've had to learn some of them because clans will send them over...if there was one thing I don't like about the clan world its having to play formulaic maps.

Why is WWII Poland the worst? Well even something like New World (which I don't care for either) has more variations in how you can play it than WWII Poland.

Why not just have others who like those maps play them when they get sent, rockfist?

I remember a time there used to be a forum for strategy and map guides. Every map should have an info button that gives basic map play info, strategy tips for said map, etc, etc.

Dont get me started on the panel interface. I abhor it. I enable it, do my map inspect, then turn it off. What a horrible attempt at a tool

Some maps don't get a lot of love and when they don't I get the honor. It's been my lot in every organization I've ever been in to do the things that have to be done, that no one else wants to.

I like NWP, gameplay and graphics. There are maps that aren't even old that look absolutely terrible.

I quite like Berlin. Now, if you mentioned Crossword, I'd be in full agreement.
