Anyway, What is the difference between zombie and nuclear?
it seems both cause the target to hit neutral.

Zombie is a new thing for me.

Nukes remove armies, zombie leaves them so if u nuke 15 they turn into 1 if u zombie 15 they turn into 15 zombies

Yes. It's a relatively new game option. While nukes reduce a tert to 1 neutral, zombie leaves as many troops as were there before the strike.

You can explore all the new game options from the tab at the top of the screen labelled "The Game". Not sure if trench was around before your hiatus. Probably was, if you've only been gone three years. Parachute forts were introduced at the same time as zombies. I think the No Forts option came in around that time also.
