fast food

Post by jonesthecurl »

At the trivia quiz this evening, 4 out of the 6 teams scored full points on the "match the menu item to the fast-food place" round. Mrs tc and I scored 5 out of 13, mostly because I read stuff as I walk past these shit-holes. Neither of us had ever eaten any of the items in the quiz.
I don't usually think that ignorance is anything to be proud of, but this was the exception.

The McDouble is Nature's perfect vegetable. Never have so many calories been produced for so cheap in the history of the world.

This seems like a good thread to ask: are Burger Kings also relatively rare in the US (compared to McDonald's, KFC, Subway etc.)?

Just cause in the UK those franchises are much more common than Burger King, which seems odd when you consider how much better BK is.

But are there as many BKs as there are McDonald's and KFCs?

I think it depends where you are. When I was in New Jersey and NYC, there were lots. Over here in CA, they seem to be less prevalent. In fac t I don't know where the nearest one is.

Like he said, it varies from place to place.

Overall, number of McDonalds in US = 14,000, number of Burger Kings = 7500, so there's almost twice as many McDs as BKs.

I don't understand why you think BK is better. BK is an almost exact clone of McDonalds. Same shitty fries, same shitty burgers, same shitty shakes, same marketing strategies, same operating procedures. Where do you see any difference?

when I want "shitty fries" I go to McDonald's. when I want a greasy burger, I go to A&W. when McD's upgraded their coffee, I would go there in the morning for breakfast maybe once a week, too. I also think their Coke tastes better than other fast food places for some reason, as well.

BK’s burgers are better, fries are better, coke is hit and miss (sometimes they don’t add ice and it’s a bit warm).

You're just saying they're better without any evidence whatsoever. The fries are the same cardboard julienne shit. The burgers are the same flavourless patty, although granted they do hide it differently.

In the Big Mac, the lack of flavour in the patty is concealed by a massive mound of shredded lettuce. In the Whopper, the lack of flavour in the patty is concealed by drowning it in a river of ketchup and mayo. So yeah, they do have a slightly different strategy for hiding the fact that the actual burger itself has no flavour whatsoever.

I disagree with you. There is a taste difference. It depends on what you have a taste for. Me I like just the burger and the bun and depending on where I buy the some cheese.

Okay, there is a taste difference. The question is whether either version has any merit. I believe both are garbage. But I'll exit now and leave you people to your culinary fantasy.

Not on Long Island. They are about as common here as McDonald's and Wendy's. (Although mostly in the towns west of mine.)

Well "flame broiled" does give a different feel to the burger. I'm not sure if it makes it better or different.
With McDonalds, the more exotic burgers (Angus burgers) are better.
Wendy's uses fresh meat so in general has a better burger.
Raising the bar above Wendy's are places like "Smashburger."
In local small scale, nothing beets "Bobby's Burger Palace" by legendary chief Bobby Flay.
(The last two qualify as "old fashioned" fast food. You do have to wait for it to be made.)

There is a Old TV style BK near me, with BW television props, a set of tables that look like 50's notepads and Marilyn Monroe over that subway grate. I'd show you a photo, but you can't take photos in there.

This thread totally derailed from the OP.

I read somewhere that MCDo treats their Coca cola syrup much more seriously. You know with kegs instead of plastic boxes. I guess people taste the difference. I don't drink it so wouldn't know.

Please... you can take a picture in a bloody Burger King.

btw, we need another kind of eyeroll emoji. This ( ) is not expressing the type of disgusted/exasperated eye roll that I wish to convey.

I wonder what Jones, Duke and anyone else who does not eat fast food would think of a place like In-n-out?

Jones, do you eat hamburgers?

Whoa! I never said I don't eat fast food. I eat lots of it. I just refuse to pretend there's anything good about it.

When you don't have time to cook, grab something at the drive-through. When you're late for work and don't have time for a real breakfast, grab something at the drive-through.

Nothing wrong with eating fast food to save time. It's just silly to say you're doing it for the flavour. It's mass-produced, over-processed, sugar-and-salt-laden shit designed for the lowest common denominator. But yeah, running late? Grab a couple Whoppers and ram them down the gullet while you put the hammer down on the highway. I do it all the time.
