Good news for freedom lovers up and down the country! The US, which used to have the highest incarceration rate in the world (tied 1= with North Korea), has now slipped all the way down to SIXTH in global league tables.
That's right, there are now a whole five countries who lock up a higher % of their populations than the US!

While the US still locks up 5-10x more people than governments of other developed economies, and 2-4x as many as 'oppressive' governments like those in China, Russia or Iran, this is still an ENORMOUS leap in the right direction and Americans can now bask in the glow of knowing they live under a government that locks up slightly fewer of its opponents than Cuba or Rwanda.
And all without hurting the share prices of big US prison companies! Happy days are here again!
