should there be a new small map

Post by Cherry pepsi? »

Hi, i'm a fan of small maps i really think there should be another.... don't you think so well i'm here to talk about what i think we should have ;)

-first of all small maps are quick and fun

-they are usally 6-20 min long and usally can become real time

-its mostly luck but fun for every one

well i think there should be more small maps because im a big fan of doodle earth, and think that doodle earth is one of the most played maps even though its small i see its been played close around 12,000 times and i think an additional small map would be great

i don't think i have the skill to make a map but im sure lots of people do and this could be a good project for somebody ;) and would get lots of hits well please comment your opion and vote on the poll if you wish :D

if nothing else, it's appealing as a map-maker because it is so much easier to create... the xml is a breeze, the army count coordination takes half the time, no worrying about readabilty.

I'd like to see some creativity in the small maps in terms of XML features... one-way routes, bombards, etc. In fact I have an idea for a polar-view northern hemisphere nuclear war map that would be nice small.

This thread should, however, probably be moved to the ideas sub-forum. What if there was a separate sticky for small map ideas? And what, exactly, is the definition of a small map? How many territories?

I am going to disagree that they are easier. Doodle Earth was in development for a long time. Half that time was arguing over if something that small should be allowed. But the other half was down right bitching over balance, territory names, and it was somehow much much more intense then a normal sized map.

I'm very impressed that dimwit stuck it out. I think he had the worst development cycle we've ever seen. It trumps Eastern Front, which was also embarrassingly bad for us.

I'd also like to see more small maps, but I don't want people thinking they are easier to make. That's a dangerous misconception.

i strongly disagree here. i think the foundry process hit an all time low when i started adding the Village People on the AoM map and the mods didn't bother to tell me it's wrong.

that's fine but the people that do agree think that this would be a good idea and you prooving it wrong makes no difference the people that do want to go witht the idea is totally fine and oviously you don't like other peoples maps finding the totally negative side to it dim... and that's not cool the objective of conquer club is to make it as fun and enjoyable for every one NOT JUST YOU because some people like large maps some people like small maps some people like any maps, so you don't have to be negative and find the worst of it if there is a new map i sure that lots of people would play it and the 12,000 games that were played on doodle can also be played on a new small one the entire reason that people play doodle is to have fun since it's soooooo small

so i would say make the best of it :D even though others find it hard to :?

Agreed, Dimwit was venturing into new territory and thus had a hell of a fight on his hands. But I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that since dimwit has now fought that fight perhaps the next 'small' map that goes into production won't have to go through all of that. ??

A small map is going to have many of the problems of a large map. And the problems of making the map balanced and working out bonuses will be intensified on a small map because there is little room for error. But the problem that I've been running into as of late - working within a defined and limited amount of space - is largely alleviated.

I'll take a stab at a small map in the coming days.
