Fog of War

Post by wrestler1ump »

I hate it. How does it work, and how is it supposed to make the game any funner?

It won't make it funner. But it might make it more fun.

Do you play with any strategy, or just click around until someone kills you? It's brilliant: in escalating games it forces you to spread out to see who's next in line to kill, and in flat rate and no cards games, it lets you hide your strength by strategic deployment.

It's a hundred times more funner. Plus a million.

What map?

Could be a long-range attack ( D-D, KOTM...)

I don't know if I had other countries bordering it because I don't know what country I lost!

Oh Laaaaack, we definitely should be able to see what countries we lose, and where they were taken from, since they were adjacent to them at that time.

Maybe not. If you lose all your troops in one territory, and have none next to it, then how do they get the message to the rest of the army? They're all dead.

Besides, you should know which territories you have, so you can tell what you've lost.

What if you were conquered by a one way border?

FoW filters the logs and only shows you entries where you took the action. Its must simpler to program and is easier on the server than going through adjacencies.

Well, I still think you should at least know what country you lost. Fog of war or not, you know what country no longer listens to you. You shouldn't have to just remember it either. If you haven't played yet (1st turn) or if you just play too many games to remember it isn't fair and isn't logical.

As to where you were conquered from, and by who... I can make arguments either way. You can say all your men are dead, so you don't know. You can also say there is a distinct possibility they dispatched a messenger or just a normal message, depending on when you consider the time period to be.

But at least let us know what country we lost. In a real situation you would of course remember what you controlled and what you didn't, but some people (not me) play over 50 games. I usually play 25 and I don't always remember how the board looked my last turn.

Well, don't play 50 FoW at once.

Like Lack said, it's though to program, and quite frankly, it adds to the difficulty of the game.

I too was surprised to see that I would not know which of my troops had lost communication. Ah, but that is the thing - they've lost communication. It's possible they were never actually conquered. Or maybe you never actually had them? Hmm ...

An upshot of this, should be more usage of the note to self field. You type in which terrs you have at the beginning of the game and at the end of every turn. You'll also want to note any big enemy listings nearby, as they could suddenly make that part of the map disappear.

I used the notes field and it helped a LOT. Oh wait, I just thought of that right now *doh*. I managed to win because everyone else was more lost than I was *shake head* *smile*.
