I just pulled a pretty cheap move in one of my games, and I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is...
It was a freestyle game and one of the players was taking their turn and trying to take the pink player out. I had my single large force next to one of pink's countries, which happened to be the last one that would be taken out. So when the player had eliminated pink's other 5 countries I attacked the last one knocking pink out. It was a terminator escalating game so I gained cards and points by doing that.
I have been afraid this tactic would be used against me several times when I was trying to knock a player out. I think its a risk that goes along with freestyle games (just like the fact that pink could have cashed in a set at the last second and prevented both of us from taking him out).
A few of the times when I have been knocking someone out I purposely block the last coutnry with my men so someone can't come and take the last country from me. So its preventable, but sometimes you might just not think about it. Anyway, it's not a move I'm especially proud of, but I wouldn't view it as cheating. What are you thoughts?
personally, thats one of my fav things about freestyle is that it allows you to do that. but if you do pull it off, sometimes the guy you screwed will let you know it in your feedback so dont be surprised if that happens. happened to me, luckily i was able to talk him out of leaving it there
oh geez must we rehash this again..... all I did was scoot in before her to grab a continent in a freestyle game... we were both attacking at the same time and I kept attacking constantly and got in there, effectively blocking her from getting the cont. no biggie... smooth move on my part.
i think its a perfectly legitimate move...
i just wiped someone out, and i purpousely left one of his lands in the back of my own (in asia) and took out teh rest of him that was on the border before taking that one out.
considering that hte third player left in the game logged on his turn while i was doing reinforcements after that, i'd say that was a good choice... even if i did leave 3 more armeis then i could have back in asia, and i was risking faling taking a 1 man nation from two 4 army nations.
I've thought it might be used on me before, and would check the game logs throughout my turn to see if someone surfaced to derail my plans mid-stream. I love when I go to place armies on my territory and get an 'Illegal move' message because it was taken out from under my feet between my starting the turn and placing the armies lol. Or when I'm marching along on the board and all of a sudden 60 additional armies from two other sides appear out of no where (I immediately ended my turn and fortified back to my little area of the world!).
oh...to answer your question, I don't think it's cheap (sneaky maybe ) ... everyone has to watch what's going on during freestyle otherwise you belong in the traditional standard games...
Well I'm glad to see that everyone has the cut throat mentality for freestyle...truly is a free for all.
I just played a game were I was trying to knock out two weaker players...and the other strong guy came and cashed his slightly larger set, blocked me and ended up winning. I was mad, but what goes around comes around
I thought I was safe playing at 5:30 AM but those Europeans will get me every time with that strategy!
Geez, I just did it again, and it happened to be to the same player (which I didn't even notice at first). He was PISSED but now I really agree with everyone that its just part of the freestyle set up and I don't feel badly at all.
