If the RAF did it as often as the USAF the American government would demand the immediate extradition of said pilots and our government would immediatly comply.
There are a few reservists, but I dont know if it makes them more prone to blue on blue incidents. The ground troops seem just as bad.
No. all active pilots in the USAF are not reservist in the sense that you are thinking (and I am using "thinking" liberally here).
The vast majority of the US armed forces are signed up under reserve programs where they spend anywhere from 2-4 years on active duty and then can either sign up for more active duty or switch to a reservist role.
No pilot is allowed to fly who is not on active duty. Any pilot who was a reservist must retest and recertify before flying again.
Pilots of the warships (f-category, Apaches, all the big assault aircraft) are all active duty soldiers, most of them officers.
How many friendly fire deaths is Europe saying the USAF is responsible for these days? Last I heard it was less than 10, which is pretty amazing.
Also keep in mind that most (not all) friendly fire incidents are shown to have fault on both sides. Often the boys on the ground are not where they say they are, or where they are supposed to be.
Just a note also, most of the flying being done in the present war is by Navy and Marine Corps pilots, so far as I know. I have relatives in the Air Force who are actually trying to transfer to the Navy (an almost impossible task...) because the Air Force isn't really doing anything right now...
"The Nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."
Acually there are quite a few pilots in the reserves for the air force.
I used to be in rotc and we visited a couple bases, one of which being a reserve base where the pilots (reservists both officer and enlisted) flew c-130s both stateside, and quite a few overseas in afghanistan and iraq.

Probably R&D stuff, Muy. Lots and lots of labratory hours researching new alloys and other materials, testing new radar systems, etc. And lots more historical review: going over all recorded dogfights from the earliest ones to the most recent and not just the ones the US military were involved in.
Basically, sit on their duffs all day and think about how killer it would be to actually use the skills that they have been trained to use.

Also, is it true that everyone that is in the Air Force is a jerk? (Just something that I have heard from my uncles that were in the Army and Navy).
You mean the Bullet Catchers and the Seamen? What's with all these is it true questions? If you think for yourself on some of these you just might find out the answer. I am in the Military and No, not all Airmen are jerks. Airmen with too much power, TSGT's and Above, and no lifes are the jackasses that give us all a bad Rep.

You forgot about the Travelling Bell-Hops (Marines) !
Note to all Marines, current and former: I mean no disrespect, but your uniforms, the ones you never wear except in parade, ceremony and similar other-than-combat duties make you guys look a little silly I think. That's all, really.
