The Vietnam war spawned a whole host of realistic films, my narrow vote for the best goes to Appocalypse now which I would consider a classic were it not for the embarrasing ending with Marlon Brando mumbling a heap of nonsense.
But you left out those classics: Missing in Action. Missing in Action II, and, who could forget Missing in Action III!
Seriously now, I figured I'd drop in and plug the new map that T-O-M and I have been tossing around... http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=48365&st=0&sk=t&sd=a. The map update is coming I'm told, but you can still drop in and checkout the gameplay notes on page 2 and let us know what you think.
The first Rambo movie wasn't all bad either. But I'll have to go with FMJ out of the given options.

Full metal jacket was good only on training after that I was bored. " this is my rifle this is my gun!"
Deerhunter to me was very very boring . "one shot one shot"
Platoon one of the best films of all time. "Hell is the impossibility of reason"
Apocalypse Now wins this hands down. "you are neither...you are an errand boy' "My dream my nightmare....I watched a snail crawl across the razors edge" "It is your right to kill me but it is not your right to judge me" "All the time im in here Im getting weaker while out there charly gets stronger" ...."CHARLY DONT SURF!!!"
I find it horribly distressing that an actual cinematographic masterpiece based on a chef d'oeuvre novel like Apocalypse Now is being compared to Rambo.
Apocalypse Now certainly takes the title for best 'Nam film, and I'd want to say very possibly in the running for (if not actually) the best film ever made.

Rambo is one of those movies that came really close to being nothing but violence. A noble aspiration, surely, but there was too much foreplay. Someday someone will make a movie in which a hundred people will get their shit ruined in the first five minutes and will continue to meet that level of awesome for the next hour and a half (that's right Saving Private Ryan, you should have just stuck with the beach scene, notice how that's the only part of the movie anyone ever talks about). Then we will have viewed the greatest movie ever made.

And there you have it... This guy bases his decision on quotes from the movies and memorability...
So, as I said, this poll is flawed.

Actually the best use of the "Charley don't surf!" was in the 2003 movie, The Mansion Family by my good friend Tommy Ramey . . .
And on topic, Deerhunter for the win. Take out the russian roulette scene even, and the movie is still just powerful, not spectacular like A-Now, but f-in powerful.
My question would be, what defines a Vietnam film? Does the simple act of setting a film in Vietnam during the Vietnam War make something a Vietnam movie? Or could a movie that uses another event as an allegory for the effect that Vietnam had on our national psyche qualify as a Vietnam movie? Apocalypse Now would get my vote, as it is easily in my top three movies of all time, but it's not really about Vietnam as much as a film adaptation of "Hearts of Darkness", the setting regardless.
And curmudgeon, I'm sorry, but the best use of "Charlie Don't Surf" is by the Clash. Sandinista. Learn it, live it, love it.

The only time I have ever liked Meryl Streep in a movie.

Film quality? Accuracy to the events? Stars in the film?
I mean, everyone is going to judge based on different criteria, so this poll is not going to reflect the true opinion.
Accuracy to the events - Deerhunter
Film Quality - Full Metal Jacket
Stars in the Film - Apocalypse Now.
Ability to watch again and again - Full Metal Jacket
Most violent Scene - Casualities of War, where Sean Penn has to watch his whole company rape the Vietnamese woman...
uugghh dude just fuckin vote its a simple question no reason to try and look like a badass..............apoc now

Each in their own very distinct ways, Platoon, Apocolypse Now and Deer Hunter are all amazing depictions of different aspects of that war. The Rambos are a joke and far worse than the John Wayne patriotic sendup "Green Beret." "Good Morning Vietnam" was very entertaining and did contain some realistic moments... and of course "Forest Gump" also has it's 'Namn moments, the rain... and the ambush where Lieutenant Dan loses his legs, Bubba gets killed and Forest catches some shrapnel in the butt.
