For the most part good list but out of the younger guitarists I'd say Dragonforce is the only one who deserves to be there... I like Muse too but but there are many older guitarists I can think of who fit this list better. David Gilmour would make my list.
HAve any of you ever heard a band called Symphony X? Their Paradise Lost album is all the evidence I need to put their Michael Romeo right up there. I'm sure most of you don't particularily like that type of music, but this guy certainly knows a thing or two and deserves a mention for sure. Neal Schon from Journey I think is grossly underrated. He definitely deserves mention here as well.
Also Brain MAy, David Gilmour, and Dimebag Darrell. Santana's pretty sweet. That gut from MArs Volta is definitely good, but his stuff is WAYYYY not mainstream, knda like Romeo's. Daron Malakian is friggin sweet too, he can move. Not big on the soloing thang, but geez even if you're not a SOAD fan like myself this is some goos stuff. BB King fo sho.
I'm sure that there are many guys that should probably be on htis list that I barely even know let alone forgot. But these are people I would definitely put in my top 100 list (10 is too damn small for all the awesome guitarists there are and have been). Because they are all just as good as Kirk Hammett and Mettallica is one of my very favorite bands. When it's not my favorite.

Hell yeah now those are some recent guitarists worthy of the term Godly.
And Malakian is more of a rhythm player than lead, but it's good that he still gets attention... rhythm guitar is highly underrated.

Something about Santana turns me off. I have respect for his playing ability, but his style really just isn't my cup of tea. My two cents...

Phil Kaeggy, an earlier Christian Rock artist was been noted BY several of those artists as one of the best guitar players ever.
Also if you are asking about the "greatest guitarist" as opposed to the greatest Rock guitarist ... you should add some classical (don't know names, just recognize the complexity of the music), and probably some country folks as well.

But in the live version, I swear that at the height of the piece, there's an individual, perfectly-crafted, innard-grabbing note on every single air molecule between the speaker and your ear, wending its way to you...

Yeah my friend has been getting me into them. I like that they use distortion to sound like guitars but so far I haven't heard any fantastic soloing (from their original songs, at least).
Now what I really love is their live Metallica covers. They play the music like normal cellos (without distortion) but they play it note-for-note, even the solos and even the vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JjQGt7WjK0
