Rudeness

Post by RobtheGob »

When a game is initialized I (very nearly) wish the other players good luck. Most people respond with something along the same lines but increasingly there are people that just ignore you. I find this quite rude tbh. :?

Is this happening to others?

Or is it just me? lol I hope not!

When i was a freemium, I would wish everyone good luck constantly too.

Now that i can have 40 or more games that i have to take my turn, I don't even look at the game chat in most cases.
The way i look at it is like this , I come here to play a game, not chat.. If i was after chat then i would go to a chatroom. I still will wish players good luck if I notice its round 1 and dont have 20 or more games waiting for my turn, so we may not be deliberately ignoring you, we might just not be looking at the game chat.

And if I have ignored and offended you, then I apologise, it really was not intentional :)

Some are rude, the ones I find most disturbing are those that only talk when they are moaning about the dice.

Personally, I think you expect too much from people.

There's a lot ruder behaviour than simply not wishing 'gl' at the start of a game... take this game chat for example (I got good ratings tags from other players for this too):

I don't always wish good luck, but simply because I'm in 30-40 games at once, and it feels kind of cheap doing it every game. I try to keep the chat friendly and open, but a lot of games go by without any chat, doesn't make it a bad or rude game, just a quiet one :)

In addition to the previously mentioned reasons, I don't like to wish good luck because I DON'T want my opponents to have good luck. In fact, I want them to have terrible luck but it would be rude of me to say that. I feel like I'm being more honest this way.

While my troops will try their best to kill your troops instantly, there will be a sizable proportion that will suffer long painful deaths on the battlefield and being a general commander of the troops, i am more concerned for the general tactical effort they are making than any attrocities they are committing (including pruning of hedges) on the battlefield.

Oh, and good luck.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Johnny Pleaseandthanks.

I love a bit of chat, but y'know...

Thanks for all the responses, I can honestly say I didnt think about premium accounts and how many games you must have going. From now on I will only be offended by free account players :) :) :)

Good luck everyone :)

Sometimes people do not always say Good luck right away. In a 1 vs 1 freestyle game timing can make or break you. Getting that quick jump in a speed game or casual can be crucial. Do not take it personal when someone does not wish you luck as some do not know chat exist for about 20 to 30 games.. hehe (yeah that was me) It took me like 5 or 6 games to see chat! :)

Also, I wouldn't consider it rude if someone neglected to start the pleasantries. However, I would consider it slightly rude for someone to not answer back with a quick "good luck" if I take the time to say the same.

I don't tell people "good luck" You most always will see me say "Hello, have fun". If you are in Comic Boy's games you will see "Comic greetings".

Depending on my mood at the time, I may not write anything. I write in so many games and chat with so many people it just gets too much at time and I want to enjoy the quiet

I'm amazed by the number of people I'm offending by not saying anything in game chat and not replying to "good lucks" etc.

If nothing else, I appreciate this thread for opening my eyes to that.

I don't think anyone means ill-will by it though, everyone's just getting on with the game. It's a community just by game interaction. Have fun!

Rob -
If you think not wishing everyone the obligatory 'Good luck' is rude, come join some games with me!
As some of you know, I've been known to go off a time or two...
In one game I think I used a total of 87 different parables to tell everyone to go screw themselves.
But! Don't fret, there is still hope in altering that thin skin of yours.
It will take work, and weeks, perhaps months of grueling practice on verbage and ill-placed commentary, but in time you too will find the joy in being labeled as one of the few, the proud, the CC a**holes who enjoy a good bitch-slapping as much as we do running the board with escalating cards!

I don't mind if people say gl, and I don't mind if I start off some inconsequential chat and people don't bother to reply.
But I don't think one should play and not look at the game chat- there's often important information there. y'know, about the game...
Probably less true in freestyle, I dunno, I've not tried that yet.

One other issue. Not everyone speaks English. Granted, English is the standard language here, but non English speakers can certainly play.

Also, some people with slow computers may be able to play, but have harder times with chat.
