Not a huge fan of punk, but I'd say The Clash. Sex Pistols just sound decrepit.

Rise Against is more of a rap metal group, I wouldn't call them punk...

Well I haven't listened to them now, if that is what you mean. They were playing a few years ago, and still may be.

That's a hard question. I like a varied amount. My current favourite might be Propogandhi or Lagwagon or maybe Black Flag. I've always been as steadfast Flogging Molly fan, and I love everything from Rise Against.
Howabout Gogol Bordello?
btw, I voted Sex Pistols because they're the best from that list.

Yeah, well I wanted the main guys up there. I can update it with people like Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Bad Religion, the Heartbreakers, Patti Smith

Well, I picked the Clash, just because they are the first punk band I really got into, and Mick Jones is awesome. Plus Paul Simonon is a great bassist.

The thing I found funny is that the Clash and the Pistols toured together and played together, yet in one quote by Johnny Rotten on Sid and Nancy, a movie about Sid Vicious, (the bassist for the Pistols), he was pissed how the director didn't ask him about anything, but instead he asked Joe Strummer: "of all the people on this earth - Joe Strummer! That guttural singer from The Clash?"

Lol.

of that list The Clash are best. partialy b/c of their lasting influence. Sex Pistols made an incredible record (which I have on vinyl, cause i'm cool like that) but that's it. 1 album best punk band ever does not make.

i'm also partial to: Operation Ivy, Rancid, Pennywise, Offspring, Green Day (F the haters, Kerplunk and American Idiot are fantastic records), Social Distortion...the list goes on

Flogging Molly's pretty damn cool. I'm also rather partial to Bad Religion.

I have it on vinyl too...CD for the car...

I have to disagree about what you said about one album not making the best punk band...if it were any other genre, I'd probably agree...but punk is different...I think The Sex Pistols defined punk, lived punk, and I think they were the Best Punk Band ever.

The old stuff is good too...Lou Reed, MC5, the Stooges...but I don't consider it punk.

I really like Offspring. They make me speed though.

And I don't know anything about Green Day's attitudes or lifestyle of anything like that...but you are right about those albums: Great tunes.

The New York Dolls should be on that list. They would have got my vote. As it is, I'd say either the Clash or the Kennedys, but without the Dolls I'm going to abstain.

The only post 70s punk I like is from comedy covers band Me First And The Gimme Gimmes.

None of you lame asses have mentioned motherfucking

FUGAZI

This poll and thread are completely invalid without them. They are the soul of punk. And they never fucking sold out like those goddamn poseurs Green Day, but managed to put out more than one album, unlike those "we get credit we never fucking earned," the Sex Pistols.

Also, The Bronx is pretty good.

The Demics are worth a listen. Canadian punk band from the late 70's.

New York City is a tune that has stood the test of time. I listened to it a lot on my drive to New York City this past summer.

Teenage Head was an outstanding Canadian punk band. If you like the old Rock'n'Roll and Rockabilly influence, you'll probably really like their tunes.

Speaking of Rockabilly influences....I fuckin' love The Cramps.

The Forgotten Rebels is another Canadian punk band that was supposed to be pretty good. I never listened to them. Their original bassist, Chris Suicide, lived in my city for a few years. He dated a chick named "Caroline" that was a real hardcore punk. I always wanted to get to know her....Caroline, are you out there?
