Reaquiring the Classic Map and RISK Terminology

Post by Itrade »

Is it possible for CC to aquire the rights to use the Classic map and the RISK terminology from Hasbro? Would it cost a stupid amount? Would there be special agreements that would have to be made with Hasbro?

I was just thinking that we could set up a fund and collect donations 'till one day, perhaps years from now, when we could finally get Classic back. It would probably benefit Hasbro, too, since we could finally start saying RISK on the site and get people interested in the board game.

So yeah, anyone with any expertise on these topics is welcome to contribute, along with anyone with opinions about this idea.

We have 109 good maps, many of them having better gameplay and graphics than the original... why does lack need to waste money on something we can all get for a few bucks at any game store?

Because it attracts new recruits. The only reason I signed up for this was because I enjoyed risk. The current homepage is confusing and ambiguous.

Personally... the only reason I joined is because I was sick of playing on the same map over and over again...

Why market the site as something you already have? And those who do not have the classic board are not RISK fanatics, so I doubt they will care that one map out of 109 does not exist.

Because the 2 Classic Variants account for a full 34% of all games played on this site.

Where's the need to bring back Classic though? Classic Shapes and Classic Art are exactly the same, just with different words. And as people above me have said, players already have the Risk board game, otherwise they wouldn't search for and come across this site
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

cool, then we are one step closer to pop ups advertising longer lasting erections within our games, and banner ads for "young hot and barely legal babes" on the game finder page...-0

Won't happen. Contributions would be few at best, and lets face it: Hasbro are the stupidest douche bag morons on the planet.

This site is a functional advertising tool that would reach thousands. If they had a clue, they would have cut a deal with lack to splash "HASBRO" all over this place, and
promoted any of their products in return for permission to use their copyrighted material.

Somehow I doubt lack would have gone for that... but cutting a deal of some sorts could be good for business.

hasbro would never accept, asking for the copyright would be exactly like admitting that there is some sort of copyright violation going on, which there isnt. but hasbro would never ever ever give anybody the rights to anything that they properly own.

You have the ability to play a game of Risk, with 5 other people, at any time you wish? I seriously doubt that. Having the classic board does a lot to associate this site with something that people know and love. It's similarities to the board game are precisely what brought me, and everyone I know who has played here, to this site. The extra variety might be what keeps us able to stay interested, years later, but being like risk is what brought us here in the first place.

Why aren't some of you even entertaining the idea. Its a good idea and you should at least consider it. Hasbeen would jump at the chance to sell the copyrights.I love the classic map and all the other maps on cc.
I play mainly Speed games. So from my prospective .
The loss of the classic map has halved the amount of speed games available. Shapes and Art are shadows of a wonderful map.

i mean, again, i wouldn't mind the jacked price in premium and/or addition of advertisements all over the site, just so we can get back a map i rarely played!!-0

Back that statement up. I seriously doubt Hasbro would sell their copyright to risk for any reasonable fee. I'm sure they make much more money from the board game than this website produces through membership (a statement I don't have proof of either).

well, seeing as hasbro was worth 3.838 Billion in '07 and they made 333 million in '07, i doubt they would be looking to give up anything they own on the cheap, and sully is easily correct... i mean, go to the wikipedia page on hasbro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasbro), and you will get a better understanding of how huge and powerful and filthy rich "Has-been" is (as someone called them, earlier)... i am sure lack is more than capable of handling his biz, and making the best decisions for his baby. if you can do it better AND get the classic map approved for your own site, i'm sure you'll have a line out the door for your site.-0

This could be a bit controversial, but how about this:

CC gets an additional membership uh, "premium plus" or something. The price is jacked up a bit. The only extra benefits of premium plus is the ability to play classic and middle earth maps and the added benefit of having the gameplay terms changed back for that user.

Maybe also just a plain "plus" membership, cheaper than premium and u get the perks described above.

The deal with Hasbro is that they get a cut of the "plus" & "premium plus" membership fee. Possibly toss in a Hasbro logo/ad on the bottom left and a link to the Hasbro site selling Risk.

It'd help to attract new members just by simply putting the classic map back up, and with the copyright we could potentially make classic even more classical looking.

again, you aren't getting the copyright off of a few increased premium memberships. you don't seem to understand how much money hasbro makes off it's games... maybe you didnt' read the above posts... here is a pertinent portion that pretty much negates your idea. hasbro is not giving away their copyright for a few thousand people that drop 25-whatever dollars...

ok, for starters hasbro is not against people playing the classic map on their computer, in fact i paid 20 bucks or so a year n a half ago for my program licensed by them.

Rather than buying the copyright has any one considered the possibility of franchising it from hasbro., where hasbro got so many cents per game played on that map, no need for viagra ads that way just merely a hasbro logo somewhere.
