Major+ 2009 Spring Doubles League [Winners: See 1st Post]

Post by AndrewB »

Congratulations to Velvecarrots - TheBro as winners of out tournament

Continue my Major+ Series of the Doubles tournament.

Please note that this tournament is going to have very heavy workload (around 100 games per team) and 7 new games will be started every week. Do not join unless you want to commit to the heavy game load

This one will start first week of March. Similar to my previous, Winter League.

The games settings will be as follow:
4 players doubles
CHAINED Reinforcement only
Alternating spoils (ESCALATING and NO SPOILS)
Alternating fog (NO FOG and FOG)

There will be 52 teams. They will be placed into 1 huge League, and paired up using Swiss Tournament System

There will be 14 rounds. In each round each team will play 7 games with different opponents. Each win gives you 1 point. Most points wins the tournament.

Starting from round 3, the bottom 4 teams will be eliminated from the tournament.

Entry Requirements and Sign-up procedures:

 1. 2200+ points for each team member.
 2. Players must play together at least 25 doubles games before joining this tournament. If you don't qualify because of this rule, please let me know, and I will use my own discretion.
 3. I can deny or allow entrance of the particular team at my own discretion.
 4. To sign up post your team members here. Your partner must confirm the participation by posting here too.
 5. Premium membership is required for the whole duration of the tournament.
 6. Once you are signed up, you don't have to maintain 2200+ rating.
League Format:

 1. 52 teams places in one huge bracket.
 2. For the first round teams will be paired up randomly.
 3. Each round each team will play 7 4-players double games.
 4. After each round teams will be re-paired using Swiss System. (strongest will play with strongest).
 5. I will try to avoid the duplicate opponents, but it will not be possible every turn.
 6. There will be 14 rounds in total. (maximum 98 games per team in total )
 7. Every week we will start a new round.
 8. Starting from round 3, in every round the bottom 4 pairs will be eliminated from the tournament.
 9. In the final round, there will be 8 teams left (52;52;52;48;44;40;36;32;28;24;20;16;12;8 teams per round)

Games Settings:
 1. Every game will be 4 players doubles, sequential, casual.
 2. CHAINED Reinforcement only
 3. Alternating spoils (ESCALATING and NO SPOILS)
 4. Alternating fog (NO FOG and FOG)

Scoring and avoiding stalemates:
 1. Winner gets +1 match point (MP).
 2. Most Points wins tournament.
 3. If you missed a game not because of your fault then 0.5MP will be awarded
 4. Every game must finish by the end of round 35.
 5. If a game is not finished by beginning round 36 then every team remaining will get -1 (minus one) MP.
 6. Those rules will be applied regardless of how many armies/countries you have left.

No shows, forfeiting and substitutions
 1. Every team must join its games within 2 day period, since they were posted, unless advanced warning was provided. Upon expire of this period the team will receive a 0.1MP penalty and team might need to provide a substitution. If substitution is not provided, then the team will forfeit their games and will be excluded from the tournament.
 2. If team is excluded from the tournament when I will try to provide a substitution team, which will inherit all the MP from the excluded team.
Q. I have another player on the ignore list.
A. If you happen to be in the same group as he is, then you would need to take him off the ignore list, so they can join the games. After that you can put them back on the ignore list right after they join the game.

Q. Also how are maps assigned - is there a strict rotation?
A. We will have one single map per set of games, which will be randomly selected from the pool of maps. So not every map from the pool will be played. But everyone in a group will play the same set of maps.

Q. I am away for that week - should I get my account sitter to join the games for that week or wait until I get back?
A. Yes, you would need an account sitter to join those games. This is just because we have very busy schedule going, 5+ new games each week. If we delay the joining for a week, the schedule will be skewed and it will be a pain for me.

Q. since it's a captain+ tourney i was curious why are there teams with less than 4000 points? i have nothing against this but since i see captains or majors on the waiting list i wonder how come those weren't chosen :?
A. Those people had 2200 points when they signed up. Between their sign up and the time when tournament has started their rating went down.

There is no way I can expect everyone to be above 2200 for the whole duration of the tournament, otherwise i would need to disqualify half of the players.

Think about 2200+ more like entry requirement, which kind of shows your ability. The reason why 2200+ rule is in place is to provide the strong competition. And not to limit your potential rating loses.
just to let all know, if i cant make some games, because of the length of this and on vacations, etc, I will have bw or dbz take my turns, I will try to play all 100 games, but I can predict 3 to 6 months down the road, so, I may be out a week or two and will need some coverage, just preparing all in advance hope thats ok. If so, see dw and neo in the finals  go thota :D

First week of March is the plan. Can be less or more then 50 teams.

What is an exact problem? Please send me a PM, and we can discuss it.
