This happened to me recently, as well. Premium ran out, and I was in a bunch of games still. I actually managed to start a speed game within seconds of my membership expiring. I was freemium before it started. I was happy it didn't kick me, and played an entire speed game as a freemie.

I don't remember if this got clarified, but also, they should mention you can have only 50 waiting at any one time.
