Although upon closer inspection of SweetPea's game play I think we can scratch the bright part, he made up for his lack of brightness with an over-abundance of happiness! Before the usual suspects leap in and scream homophobic bigot, it seems to me that the word 'gay' was used as an insult in trash talk rather than an expression of homophobia.

Its' use within "trash talk" does not in any way excuse it from ALSO being homophobic. You're certainly right about the different definitions of "gay" and yet,it's painfully clear which one was in use in this particular case.

In fact, it would no longer be considered homophobic. It certainly would be considered vulgar, but vulgar is far less offensive than homophobic.

In fairness, dysonsphere did admit that he should have used a different term. He made a mistake, but he's fessed up that it was a mistake and, I presume, will use "more imaginative and colorful insults" in the future. That works for me.

It is not homophobic at all. It is a reference to how male homosexuals are often inclinded to being too camp. My hairdresser is homosexual and to have him saying 'Wow look at your chest, you can so see you have been to the gym' etc before commenting on the girls outside being 'Just so achingly pretty' warrants wholly him being told he is a poor quality puff and no mistake. The point being using the term as an insult is a reference to a person's behaviour regardless of their sexual orientation.

That guy sweetpea (that name... what is that about) flounced around, had a cry and then handed the game to an opponent.
