In my opinion it makes going to GD less appealing and enjoyable and promotes a negative image of CC to potential new players who come into GD.We could call it "place to let off steam about dice and players forum" or something. Wadda ya think?

I blame my bad dice on Fitz. Although he may not be responsible,it atleast makes me feel better.AAFitz wrote:People could also learn to realize that this is a game, and simply not have a need to blow off steam, and perhaps even mature into adults and well adjusted members of society.

People seem to think this is well said. I completely disagree. What you're saying is, instead of engaging with the site and community, draw a deep breath and hold it in. Hold on to your grumpiness until you get so pissed off you leave. That seems a bad idea for the site. Once again I'm being discouraged from interacting. I don't even know why this site still has public forums, they're being whittled to nothing, which of course may be the point, so much easier after all.
Why do people post about idiot players? Why do they post about bad dice? Because people are social, they want to share their experience, and they should be encouraged to do so, for the sake of the community. Telling them to "suck it up cupcake" is like saying "you do not matter to us".
And you know what, blowing off steam does not make you ill-adjusted or not an adult. We are allowed to "feel", it's okay, even nerdy teenagers playing risk. Hell, cry if you want, it doesn't make you less of a man or woman. Not "blowing off steam leads to suppression of the annoyance and disillusionment with the site. If people care enough to get pissed off when they get bad dice, respect that passion, don't sneer at it.
This is why expletives exist and are OK. This is why there should be an outlet pressure-valve on CC. This is why snidey "Suck it up cupcake" comments are despicable.

Well, first of all. I agree with them, not you. Secondly, I am not at all saying hold in your grumpyness....your anger, your hate...Im saying...do not allow the site to cause these things in the first place.
I am suggesting, that you dont be affected by them in the first place, and that if you are, that you certainly dont vent them out on someone else.
I of course am not suggesting that one does not reply to a comment, though even there, restraint should be used.
Its obvious you think that people are better when they lose their temper, when they lose control, and when they act out on their emotions...but what you fail to grasp or even realize, is that by doing so, you only enter into a cycle of hate, anger, and acting out.... by blowing off steam, you do not release steam...you create it. You can not become less angry by becoming angry. Its an easy trap, and the human race is notorious for it, but that does not justify it.
If you feel angry about something, or someone, yelling or complaining will not make you feel better...not really, it will only use up the adrenaline, but in doing so, it will create receptors for more, and the next time you will become more mad, and will want to blow off more steam...and more, and more.
Instead, dont blow off steam. Really look at the situation honestly. Was what that person did, really so bad...are the dice really out to get me....should I get 2 pair so often...and most importantly...should these things really bother me? because...after all its just a game.
You are trying to suggest that flame wars helped people get along...but all it really did, was create more flames...people got addicted to them....fights became bigger and longer, and while sometimes a healthy disagreement truly can help two people come to an understanding....using a temper tantrum to heal ones anger, is simply throwing gasoline on a fire.
This is the actual situation. Its why CC is better off without flame wars, and why people are better off, not fighting...and not looking for excuses to blow off steam...because in doing so, they simply become factories.
And again...its just a game...try and have fun with it. Oh, and I hope this helps.
And if youre not convinced...
Who are the happy people that you know... the ones who are always losing their tempers...
Or the ones that seem to not need to...
And really, would you suggest that the people who are always angry and losing their temper should simply lose it more to be happier....maybe....but I think its safe to say it wouldnt be helpful advice.... It definitely wouldnt be as helpful as the advice given, if considered properly.
In any case, I recommend feeling pity and understanding for those who cannot control their tempers, and simply have to blow off steam...but I really dont think you are helping them, by encouraging it. I fully agree that bottling up emotions is dangerous, but expressing them in the most positive way possible, is really the best way to release them.
Or, if you dont feel like reading that whole post.
Dont sweat the small stuff. Its all small stuff.

Laughable Fitz, laughable. Simply writing a long post does not equate to a good argument, and at least have the decency to read what you're replying to.
AAFitz wrote:I am not stating that my opinion is correct. What I was stating was that the facts I presented were correct.
IE. People losing their temper, do not become happier by losing their temper more often. It is not losing the temper, which makes people happier. The happier more well adjusted, more mature people, do not lose their temper more often, and therefore do not need a forum to do so.
By suggesting an area for players who cant control their tempers, you are in effect giving them something that will ultimately not help them, and is ironically meant to help them.
By not making this forum available, it forces people to channel their anger and frustration more positively, or at the very least channel it somewhere else, and is therefore more helpful.
The part about the forum of course is opinion, but it is not my opinion about human nature, that is a fact, unless you actually do suggest that people will be happier, if they allow themselves to be come more angry and act out on that anger more often...which, as I already explained, and is simply obvious...doesnt work.
In any case the whole argument is for naught... flame wars is not going to be reinstated, so like all forums and discussions on these forums...this is all just for fun.
Oh...and as far as your quote from the mod....while you think that means that we need flame wars because of those threads, it actually could just as easily suggest that those dice hating threads should not be allowed either...

I dont want to be a mod, and dont think Id be a good one anyways....or...dont want to be a good one in any case, which is why I never did, and never would accept the job.
Perhaps cutting down on the BS in here, would be a better goal, than just setting up a toilet elsewhere for it.

My room mate recently had to write a c++ program for one of his comp sci programming classes, and the assignment was to write a Risk Dice game simulator. Well, he did so, and was goofing around with it: he discovered that the attacker had to have at least 1,000 troops to have a near 100% win calculation. Anything under 10 troops attacking, it would be almost a sure win fir the defense based primarily on the fact that the defense always has the advantage on ties. (I don't like the concept of ties my self, i personally think if a dice roll ties, it should be re-thrown and be kept re-thrown until one side wins. But that's for another time.)
