Don't even think about hating on Waterloo based on what a bunch of knuckleheads in chatter box think. That's one of the top five maps on the site.

Which illustrates my point that just because a map is unpopular, doesn't mean it has no merit.

so we're supposed to make maps that are popular with everybody and make sure that they work in both sequential and freestyle games from 2 players to 8 players in singles, terminator, assassin, doubles, triples, and quadruples games with unlimited, chained, and adjacent fortifications, flat rate, escalating, and no card games, in both fog and no fog games and in speed and casual round lengths?

yea.

we'll get right on it.

I hate waterloo, personally, but that's because I can't play it at all. I have great respect for people who have mastered it, and for the effort that went into making it.

onya Pedronicus.
But better check your facts first, its not 4 it's 5, i did Valley of the Kings also, and we all know how everyone hates that one
I own those maps yes, and from the most recent map stats they are still active and being played each week. I can say therefore that i still cater to a market place here. Simply because they don't play to 1v1 or similar "quick" games doesn't make them any less comparable, it simply means they are unpopular because they take a while to play.
And from the range of "talented commentries" that are coming in on this subject so far, i can understand why these maps might be less popular. i can pat myself on the back and say i given the site these maps.
You my dear friend on the other hand have nothing to offer. Where is your map?

I'm never going to make a map, because I've always been anti new maps from the start. Classic is the dogs bollox and can't be bettered.
Just because the solar system exists or there was a historical battle fought at waterloo, doesn't necessarily mean this site needs a map based on it. The only map I ever had any input to was to give marv the idea that the Philippines would make a similar sort of map to Classic, without the need for barbed wire fences and rivers that start somewhere in the middle of a land mass, but never make it to the sea.

got a new map?

Anyone following this thread (the favourite maps elimination) knows how much of a steaming pile of shit it is. Sorry, but it is. I watched 2 people fast-post one after the other for days in a row, Iceland got up to about 87 votes 5 days after going Beta, the next highest at the time was 21 votes. The ones that got voted out, got voted out because the same person kept voting them down, not because they are generally unpopular. Have a look at high-rank quads games, you'll find a hell of a lot of them are played on Conquer Man, WWII Gazala, Bamboo Jack, and Waterloo - four of the most "unpopular" maps.

I notice also that Classic is 11th in the list. Out of the 2903678 games that have been finished in total on this site, 1840982 are not on the Classic, Classic Shapes, or Classic Art maps. That means 1062696 of the 2903678 are Classic or a variant... ie - 36.6% of all games are played on the "11th most popular" map. That thread is a joke, a bad one, and needs to be dragged out of it's underground cellar and hanged, dictator-style.

yeah pirates map never got done, and was definitely my best original idea. but, its ok...the initial gameplay idea (most parts anyway) has already been put into a few different maps...atleast feudal and new world (maybe more, too many maps now for me to keep straight).

maybe ill revisit the idea...itll be slow going though, too much work for me these days...
