Graphic Revamps

Postby ndrs on Thu Dec 29, 2011 9:23 am

How does it work if I'd like to do one?

I thinking about maps like Africa, Europa, maybe a couple of others.

you need to ask the permission to the original mapmaker since he/she owns the graphics rights on the map according the current CC Map agreement ;)
When you have his/her approval, just let me know in any sort of way and you can start to work on the map.

Just two things:
1. I suggest you to finish your curretn project before starting a new one
2. Revamps are a pain to do.

Let me know if you need to know anything else

Thanks man! I've sent out a PM, I think one of the Africa Map creators are still active on the site.

I also wanted to say that I in no way meant that the maps I mentioned are ugly in anyway, just thought that an update would be fun.

This is solid advice. ;)

Revamps are a pain because you will get no end of grief from people who do not like any changes in the first place, or from others who agree that change is needed but not the kind you are suggesting. I really wish the site would support multiple graphic versions of maps. I would make it a proper suggestion but if it hasn't been suggested in the past, it is unlikely to be implemented in my lifetime. It's just not useful enough to most users. It would have been a nice way to preserve the Classic Shapes/Classic Art maps alongside the revamped Classic (World Cities) map.
