12 pages in the foundry

Postby gimil on Mon May 19, 2008 7:57 pm

We currently have 12 pages of map threads in the foundry. I know generally anything past page one isnt worth looking at but would anyone object to the idea of shifting everything into the ideas forum expect those threads with maps CURRENTLY being developed? Would leave less than a page of threads for maps that are acctually being developed :)
What do you know about map making, bitch?

It seems like a lot of work for not much help.

not really, 10mins ill get everything moved. You remember how much more active the foundry felt when we had 25 thread per page? This would hopfully give a similar feel to the foundry with only active maps being in the main foundry. Rather than 12 pages of ideas.

lock them and move them to ideas.

Or perhaps create a specific archive for old ideas and maps which never made it? Any map older than a year could be put in this archive for example.

not sure we need yet another subforum for archived maps.

I think there should be a subforum for abandoned maps just like the abandoned tournaments subforum.

i propoased this a while ago and twill vetoed the idea of an archive on the basis that map ideas can be revived unlike completed tournaments.

I say not to lock them. I abandoned my Charleston map last year, but then picked it back up again this year.

Good.

Locking is overbearing in this instance.

Well a sub-forum can be produced with no locked threads just maps get moved there if progress is stagnant, say no update in a month and hence the main foundry will be cleaned up. If someone returns to work on a map that has gone stagnant then they can post in the abandoned thread and give andy or gimil a PM so the thread can be moved back to the main forum. There's no point moving all the threads to map ideas as thats just going to make map ideas more cluttered and result in more confusion.

i say lock them, i really hate necrobumping and if somebody wants to restart a map (like rj) he can simply pm a mod to unlock it.

alternatively - they sink to the bottom of ideas - and when they want to be resurrected - they post - and hey presto - it's back up and running - without any of the CA's having to dick about with anything.

if theyre just map ideas and not actual attempts then why dont you merge them into the map ideas announcement?

and if theyre maps that have been abandoned just move them?

anyway i dont think that i have much opinion on this because basically i will prolly never look at a thread that is just an idea and not an actaul draft...

so go 4 it if you've the time gimil :)

Doubles the amount of clicks to carry it out, especially if whne most of them aren't going to be necro'ed anyway.

Certainly makes the main Foundry look a little better. Perhaps, as various people mentioned, the small number will keep from daunting people and encourage new posters.
