stale maps

Postby jleonnn on Wed Oct 07, 2009 5:17 am

I have a map, still in the drafting stage, but no one's paying attention. I haven't given up on the map and I am still quite eager to receive feedback. Yet, no one's posted for 4 days now. Depressed. What should I do now?

Put a link to your maps thread in your signature, preferably with a cropped section of the map in IMG tags (150x600 max) Looking something like this: (Godzilla is optional) ;)

Code: Select all

The best way that I've found is to comment on other people's maps consistently. The best advice comes from other map makers and the best way to get their attention is to post on the map that they're working on. When I was starting on my 13 American Colonies map I found a couple of new map makers in the drafting room and just starting keeping up with updates and offering feedback, after a few posts of that they were doing the same for me.

You could make every post you make on the site a link to the topic (like so), but that might come across as being desperate.
Really, if you have a picture of part of the map in your sig, along with a link (or you could make the picture the link) then you post a lot of feedback on other maps, people will see your map in your sig a lot and they will come and check it out.

Note: there is a limit to how much text you can put into a link, so it doesn't work that well.

Get an announcement on the homepage, it works decently well :P

In seriousness, I think positively contributing to others maps really helps your own. Of course you have to put a link to your own map in your signature so they know that you are working on a map as well. This should bring in traffic to your own thread and will also help the other cartographers who are in the same position as you.
