As I said in the PM to celliottii, I do not think the games made non-Random should count. If I'd chosen my home game against Streaker I would've won, no doubt. I chose random, got severely shafted and heyho, it's a loss for me. Why should other people benefit because they can't be arsed to read the rules?

While I don't agree that I would have lost those games (not with the rolls I had), why would you allow people to bypass the rules on the start of the ladder (or during any other point of the game)?
Charle had the balls/honour to make a new, random, game even though he had already virtually won the tiebreaker vs me. It's my opinion that all non-random games should be replayed to keep the start of this ladder honest.

Agreed. I only meant I would've won my home game if I had chosen the map and settings, not necessarily won the challenge. Regardless, it's an unfair advantage.

Hey everyone,

I'm quite glad we are getting this out and discussing the "Random Map" rule (Rule #5). Please allow me to make a few comments here and let's see if we can put this to bed for the time being...

For those of you who have been with the Ladder since its conception, you know that we have tried several different things to make the Ladder not only fun and competitive, but as a training tool as well. That's what the Society of Cooks is all about...teaching players to become better.

Not all of the changes/evolutions/experiments/rules we've added in the past have worked out, but we gave them a fair shot. Other changes we have made worked out great.

The "Random Map" is one of these new changes. We need to give it a fair shot before we shoot it down.

Let's look back at the old way...where each player chose their own map and the third game was a random map. If each player always chose their favorite map and always won on said map, then the only way to decide the winner was to play the random map.

I've seen posts and have received PMs where a player says they would have won their match if they could have chosen their own map for their home game. What's the point in learning something new when you keep playing the same map over and over and over again? What's the point in having a "home map" when the match is decided in the random game?

No one likes changes...especially changes that affect a player's rank/points or throws off their "normal gameplay".

BUT...we will keep the "Random Map" rule for the time being. I will closely monitor this. If I feel it has disrupted the recreational value of the Ladder, then I will take my findings to my "Counsel", present my evidence, and we will vote on whether to keep, modify, or eliminate the rule all together.

Instead of penalizing NINE players for violating the "Random Map" rule, I chose to issue a "mulligan". No penalty and if the players choose to replay that map, that is up to them. So far, I've seen the players step up and re-create the invalid games using the Random map.

This rule (and the others) are all new. If I start throwing out "punishments" for someone violating a rule that was just recently added, then I would not be doing YOU the proper service by showing some grace and leniency. Please understand, this grace will not last. That "mulligan" was Ladder-wide.

Sorry, but here is where I do have to sound like a jerk. IF the "Random Map" rule does "survive" and you do not like it, then you have to make a choice. You can either live with it....or leave the Ladder. I will not cater to an individual's wishes or desires simply to keep that player on the Ladder. The Ladder is about a group a people, not the playing styles of an individual.

All I can say is give the "Random Map" rule a chance. Let's see what happens. You know that I will make any "course corrections" to keep this ship afloat.

Thank you.

I'm not questioning the rule, just the mulligan. Oh well.

My only point is, everyone follow the new random rule, and not saying someone should be punished, but simply non-random games don't count, Those who didn't choose random, then they create new random maps for their respective matches, But as Ladder Director, you can do whatever you want with the rules. Sounds like some are making a big deal, what's so hard about having the players who started non random create new random maps, just saying

My bad, guys....

I meant to add the following to that main post:

If a non-Random game is created, it will not count towards the Ladder match. The player receiving the invite should do the following:

1. Decline the invite.
2. Send a PM or wall post to the player sending the invite to let them know this, so they can re-create the game.

Thank you...

Ummm, what did I say here that hurt you, my good and dear friend? :( You know I respect and admire you and all you do. Could it be because I didn't include your name with mac and dhall? If so, be at ease. The line of periods is a substitute for et cetera, meaning and others, which means you of course.

Okay, now that I've soothed crybab... umm, I mean Elric's hurt feelings, let's get to business. As I said earlier, I mentioned the random thing to mack and he agreed to play the non-random for fun and made another one to count for the challenge. Boom! Easy peasy. Random games played for the challenge, non random games don't matter. I think everyone who failed to read the changes which Chuck posted in red to make it easy for us to find all the changes so we wouldn't have to try to pick them out of the rules while we read the whole list, should redo their non-random games or at the very least get a waiver for the can't play the same player twice in a row rule so they can redo their challenge with random games.

The third option is to just say we screwed up, let it go and get on with life and the ladder. And I do mean we because if your opponent didn't bother to read the changes that were posted in RED and gave you a non-random game and you accepted it, you both screwed up. So why not just... let it go?, he said in his most comforting, hypnotic voice. :D Life is beautiful and so are you, he continued in his hypnotically soothing voice. You love the ladder and want it to go on and leave all this silliness that doesn't matter at all behind you so you may go on to gain the #1 spot because you're a really great player who can do anything you set your mind to. I admire you and revel in your success. :D

And yes I will drop the silliness if everyone else does. I mean this particular silliness of course. No way I'll give up silliness for good!

Yep. I'd like to see one that starts with chuckles, moves on into guffaws that increase until he pukes just to let someone know how laughably ridiculous their statement or action was. That and one wearing a hangman's noose and jumping off a chair.

I would like to challenge ben.cleuch to the following games:

Game 15899006
Game 15899009

By the way, I tried to send off a challenge to gsolo19654, but was told that he doesn't exist as a member of CC.
