Changes:

1. all shiites are 8 instead of 9. all shiites is actually less borders than regular shiites.

2. the other thnic bonuses have been changes slightly to balance out.

3. bahdad bonus is now +8 instead of +10 because if you have all of baghdad you already have the other 3 +2 bonuses.

4. US now has a resistence of 3 instead of 4 everywhere.

5. mahdi army bonus is now +7 instead of +8 per 4 cities

6. "cities not required" added to legend

7. Babil fork in the road was moved down for clarity.

8. sig added.

8. other minor graphical stuff

Graphic opinion-
I think that down part of map is to dark,
-Can title go down a litle-note"Battle for Iraq"
-Can you move a litle "to Faliujah" and "to Anbar" its very close to edge of map.(you fix these)

I agree you could even move it down so it overlaps the actual country a bit as long as it doesn't affect playability without it looking bad.

I like the title being clipped, its a bit more natural.

I did lighten up the lower part of the map some what.

I did move those two texts over a bit.

The graphics for this map are amazing. When I was looking at your first couple of drafts before you started to work on graphics, in the map ideas and early in the main forum, I was unsure where you were going to go with the look and feel.

Where you have ended up now is stunning. It gives you the exact feel I think you were trying to achieve...hunched over scattered papers on a desk, lightbulb swaying overhead but not all light reaching the surface. Awesome.

As for moving the legend or name down...having the name partially cut off is not so much a problem, though it may indeed may look better to see it all. I'd maybe consider fading the title's color a little more, it almost looks a little too perfect, when compared with say the text in the 'Rules of Engagement'.

I don't really see very many graphic suggestions I can make...perhaps increase the size of the "City Loyalites" text...and now that I think of it, do you mean Loyalties?

Anyways, I like the map, mibi.

Changes:

1. title moved down

Large With 88's

Image
small with 88's
Image

some issues:

the bagdad circles need to be adjusted... the black and dark green ones specifically.

also the loyalties are real tight in the small map. there is actually a 1px space between them. This might be an issue if you have 88 armies on there but Im not so sure it will be if you have 13 or 28. also 3 digits would be impossible there and on the large map as well but i dont see this as an issue because there is no reason to have over 99 armies on those spaces as there are not borders. if the city is lost, the loyalty bonus is lost, so a buildup in a loyalty square does not make sense.

thoughts...?

Agreed with Yeti_c. When the Rail USA map was in production, WM had to deal with spacing similar to yours, to allow for no overlapping 3 digit coordinates. Even though 3 digits aren't normal, they sometimes do come up in long regular games, and coordinates should always be as clear as they possibly can be. Very few real games ever get to 4 digits (builds games don't count) so 3 this most you should have to prepare for.

(The two Karbala's have this problem also).

I'd love to make 3 digits work, although I am not entirely sure how, it might be workable on the large map, but the small map is tight at 600px wide. there isnt a lot of maneuver room.

I agree it is pretty tight on the small map. I say give it a shot with the current setup and see how that develops.

If the above doesn't work, perhaps consider altering the layout of the small map...I.E. move country gameboard over to the right (perhaps eliminating the decorative excess on the legend) and using up what little buffer space there already is.

How many extra pixels do you need - can it flow over the edge of the map slightly (on the small)?

Looking at it - if you had support for 3 digits - then the first 2 columns would span to where the 3 are now...

Perhaps you could flip them on their head?

i.e.

88
88 CITY
88 NAME
88

instead of...

CITY NAME
88 88 88 88

C.

PS I can see why you don't want 888 and I can see your reasoning... but I do think even if you have 2 they need to be better spaced.

thats an idea, but i'd rather not redesign the whole thing.... also many of the city names cant really go verticle like that. I may be able to squeeze some more pixels out tho..

do the 888's center on the center of the 88 or do they just tack on an extra digit?

I believe they're centred the same as an 88 with the new 8 on the front (left).

What about a staggered system...

i.e.

88 88 88 88 - CITY NAME - 88 88 88 88
CITY NAME - 88 88 88 88 - CITY NAME

OR

CITY NAME - - - - - - - - - - CITY NAME
88 88 88 88 - CITY NAME - 88 88 88 88
- - - - - - - - - 88 88 88 88

The first 2 digits stay in the same place and the third is added to the right of them.
