Snapshots versus Chat tabs

Postby Halmir on Sat Nov 28, 2015 3:23 pm

Concise description:
  • Let's sort the format out so we don't get frustrated by being vaguely excited at the prospect of someone talking to us in game ! Please keep Chat for Human Chat messages only

Specifics/Details:
  • We all play lots of games, because they're good fun. But we only have so much time to spend on such an activity, and we don't need it wasted. What I'd like to see is the Snapshots links (which is a great idea, btw) kept only within the Snapshots tab, and the Chat tab reserved JUST for other player messages

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Why? Because I'm often trying to interract with others in the game, for diplomacy, charm, highlighting a dangerous opponent or other such interractions. I WANT to notice when their responses have been made, but currently it's lost in the fact that every single turn in every single game, there's a new Chat message. The Chat tab shows a new response just because of a new Snapshot message, which is so automatic why would I bother checking there? If I want Snapshots then there's a separate tab for such things, but I'm not going to click on the Chat tab most of the time, because 90% of the time it's only another darn Snapshots link.

you can set it up so the chat is visible without having to click on it, to make it visible. sooo, this idea is useless... plus, a large portion of the site plays team games, that would be me, and those shots in chat are useful... why? you check chat before every go and the snap is right there. too many people want to waste the sites time on creating solutions for their odd little problems, that already have solutions if they just LOOK at what is in front of them, and try to figure something out. this idea is dead, because this idea does not solve an immense problem that the majority of the site is clamoring for... good luck with this... the black jesus has shut this suggestion down...-Jésus noir

nothing to see here...

I don't see the connection between what you say and the OP say.

us, a large portion of the site plays team games, that would be me, and those shots in chat are useful... why?

The OP agree with you here.

Maybe you're a bit tired owen ? Take a nap and read again that suggestion.

I agree with the suggestion. Snapshot do not need to be on the chat since they have their own dedicated panel. Of course it would require that the snapshot panel become able to load all the snaps and not only the most recent one.

The issue raised by the OP is that each snapshot makes it appear like a new chat message has been sent. If the chat is visible this no longer happens and is easy to see.

Well you wouldnt as you have never shown ability to think laterally.

Don wrote:Snapshot do not need to be on the chat since they have their own dedicated panel.

So you are suggesting that you need yet another tab visible at all times clogging up the screen? Simple solution that.

@Owenshooter - You are correct, except that when playing on mobile and tablet devices it is not possible to make the chat tab visible and snapshots are incredibly annoying. I'd suggest that in this mode the snapshots are kept to the snapshot tab. I am not sure how easy that is, but there are some things that have clearly been coded differently for the smaller screens.

Do we know each other ? Maybe you could keep this kind of useless remark to yourself, doesn't help anything.

Read again what I said. You quoted it and you didn't read it ?
I am using present time. There is already another tab. Visible at all times or not depends on how you set up your different panel that's it.

Snapshot are currently visible in the chat tab and at the same time in the snapshot tab.
If you take one snapshot per turn it can fill your chat tab with a lot of snap, which can make it annoying if you are trying to find diplomatic discussion that happened earlier for example.
It is not a big deal, but, since there is already a specific tab for the snapshot, it is kind of useless to have them at the same time in the chat tab.

OP is suggesting we get rid of the snapshot in the chat, and only keep them in their own tab.

Ok i missed that part because snap in the chat are an issue for me anyway, what said owen make sense then. But still, the idea isn't stupid and would be a minor but nice improvement.

aaaand, that is why the idea is a non-plus. you can put them in their own tab, already... i like them in the CHAT, because i see them in all team games...-Jésus noir

p.s.-thanks, Wing... jeez... some people!! ;)

Well this must be my mistake, I came into the Suggestions forum as it was labelled
"Have any bright ideas? Share and discuss them with the community".
I guess it needs relabelling
"Post a genuine suggestion to solve a genuine problem, only to have a Mod attempt to shut it down instantly" ??

Silly me.

I'm afraid that if I am playing a game against anyone and they want to communicate, they'll have to PM me in future as I won't be monitoring a spam loaded so-called Chat tab....

I much prefer to see the snapshots in the chat. It gives reference to what's happening around the time of the snap. A list of snaps isn't nearly as helpful as snaps with context without having to jump back and forth between the snapshot tab and the chat and comparing time stamps.

Perhaps a check box to filter out snaps and only show chat?

How about we make the user interface work better before we just add loads of check boxes for personnel preferences that the majority will never see.

In the hierarchy of solutions, adding check boxes should be a last resort.

Well as I kind of indicated, I like the way it works now.
I guess the check box suggestion was IF this was going to change, that would be the way to go. But I don't really think it needs changing.

Indeed, we still don't have a solution to you posting drivel on the forums...

The option to remove snap shots from chat seems a sensible addition. Make it an option so those that want it can keep it, those who don't can declutter the screen.
The only choice would be whether to make it game-dependent or part of the profile.
