Password threads.

Postby eddie2 on Fri Jan 07, 2011 7:37 am

Concise description:
  • making a thread with passwords within clan pages.

Specifics/Details:
  • This is for things like babysitting threads etc or so leaders can talk privatly about stuff within the thread.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • will save the hassle of loads of pms getting sent. also will allow you to have 1 or 2 checked babysitters that have acsess to the clans players passwords if somthing unknown happens and the player can not make it to there games. this will make it that the sitter has a place to store the passwords and it will be safe from other peoples eyes.

What do you mean with the "hassle" of sending PM's? Sending one or two PM's to get yourself a sitter, has never been a problem for me.

ok maybe clear this up a little bit.

babysitters
sometimes players go missing in action due to real life events so if you could have a thread within your clan that holds all players account passwords(only players that are willing for this) then have a set amount of players with accsess to this. This is due to the events with buddysystem in the last clan i was in where he was found guilty of account abuse as well for posting his password in game chat for the team 2 see it.

other reasons

in clans you have certain things you discuss with only certain members instead of a long list of pms you could have a private thread within the forum page for it. Am i correct in saying this is similar to what the mods have just now. They have acsess to certain pages only within the mod forum depending on there level of acsess.

i think this is just to do with you and your clan..unsure why this is a site wide thing.....in empire we all have guys who know certain peoples pass for those emergencies

no lv listen say someone goes missing without notice. let me give you a example.

you are king sams sitter now king sam has 30 games running but 7 of them games are where you are in them against him. you cannot sit for him for these games. but also should not give king sams password out.

from the buddysystem case
king achilles wrote:Let's just say, if he is using his account, it's not only him. He point dumped and did not specifically designated an account sitter for his account.

all i am saying that if you have a thread that can be locked in the clan page where you hold the passwords and have maybe 4 members that have clearence for it . this would be good.

passwords should not be kept in public access...fullstop
if you are in a clan chances are you have 2 or 3 guys who has your password..they will take your turns...I dont get what the issue is..
if they are in non teams games they dont take the turn and get someone else to do it...simple as that.

I agree, why dies anyone need this? Everyone should manage their own passwords and find ppl they are comfortable going it too. If you play against them and they didn't arrange anodes sitter, they poorly planned for emergencies then.

I think the OP means threads which you must know a password to access, not a thread with everybody's password displayed publicly.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Have a thread that is password protected so that not everyone in a clan can have access to it. A use of it would be to hold passwords.

really can't think of another reason for it though... :-s

And since I can't think of another reason as well, it brings back the discussion why you would need a password protected thread in the first place. Because most of us agreed that knowing who your password has, is not much of a problem for the majority.

well if you cannot think of anything else i guess there cannt be any other reason. but i can.

1)storage of clan applications.(some players might give you info you do not want all players to know within the clan.)
2) some players might not play well with certain members of the clan so you could have a thread so you do not match them up in games that only players you give privs to have acsess to.

its called a word document eddie.. That info can be saved on ur computer.. if u need it on multiple computers u save it to a flash drive or send it to urself as an attachment in an email.. if the idea is to share this information with select people in the clan send it to them... there would be so little use for this idea and there is so much better upgrades that could be done..

If you are asking for the ability to secure specific threads with an assigned password that would have to be entered before viewing the thread, this is possible.
However if you are asking for a way to store/access other member's passwords, this will not happen.

A better solution for the account sitting we have today, would be an official account sitting system. However with the current integration of: the phpBB forum software, private messaging (a feature of phpBB), and live chat; a system where ONLY access to the game features of CC is a large amount of code away from being feasible. Knowing some of the things that the admins, Team CC, and the community as a whole want implemented; this one is a far amount of work more than others, therefore some of the smaller, or less challenging of the updates or features will be implemented first, and as the code is slowly adapted to work with this new system, other features (such as a clan management system (FYI: Just my speculation of something more useful)) will come first.

(Disclaimer: I know this thread was not suggesting a system for account sitting that is an improvement over the current password sharing technique, however the system I mentioned is far more likely to be implemented than a private thread where users can submit their passwords to.)

Oh dear, I should have been in here when eddie first posted this.

First of all, a public thread with maybe 20 to 30 passwords in it with maybe 30 to 40 members looking at it? Are you serious?
If you want to start a thread in your clan for people to show their passwords for everyone in there clan to see, then go ahead, see how you get on. I think you'll find that 99.9% of CC'ers would not want to reveal their password to a large group of people they do not know.
Oh and you can't close this thread, but I will do it for you.
