Major Holidays

Concise description:
  • allow 48 hours per player taking there turn instead of 24 hours.

Specifics/Details:
  • For Christmas, perhaps from Dec. 24th thru Dec. 26th/

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Gives the players more time to spend with friends, family and loved ones.

I relly like this idea. I have been not joining games for the past two weeks just because I dont want to ask anyone to sit for me over the holidays. Chances are the person I ask is also too busy to take my turns anyway. I think this would make life a little easier for those players who want to play over the holidays, but cant or dont want to burden a friend or clan mate to watch their games.
Soid suggestion Blitz, I sure hope its enacted.

See, this is precisely why I DON'T like this idea. If this is going to be a problem for someone, then they should use some self-restraint and not join any more games until after the holidays. I know...self-restraint, what a concept. Come on people...don't make your own problem into a situation where it's everyone else's problem.

So basically this just applies to Christians?

what about a week off for Hanukkah for all people of Jewish Faith or time for Eid-ul Adha for those who follow Islam?

lets not forget the Hindus with Diwali or Kwanzaa for those of African descent. And lets not forget that not all religions have holidays on or around those 2 days you mention that are of major importance nor does most of the world stop for those 2 days. Only about 33% of the world is Christian in faith and thats dropping daily

This is an international site and for you to ask for something that only views the world as Christian is well - just predictable I suppose that you would see the world from a singular perspective

This is an open ended can of worms - you could site non religious holidays of importance as well do we allow for the 4th of July but not the days of independence of other places? The list goes on and on

How about for US Federal Holidays you can do something special like a medal or two saying you participated or something like that. Over time you can start expanding towards other well known holidays. As for the Christmas holiday just have it as the Winter Holiday Season.

This is completely different from what is being suggested... Please stay on topic.

I was merely adding to the suggestion if we were on the topic of holiday seasons. O:)

As for adding extra time I don't think it would be necessary to allow more time. Maybe a nice little warning box can appear during the holiday season when they try to enter a game explaining that they better be serious for taking their turns or something along those lines.

Even though I strongly disagree with the suggestion...in fairness, he did say "Major Holidays" in the title and only appeared to be using Christmas as an example.

I did. Check out the subject and the line where he says "Major Holidays". It just so happens that Christmas is a major holiday, and so he used it as an example.

while the OP did note that using Christmas was an example in this suggestion, I believe loki is picking up on the naivete that a website with such an international roster of users could reasonably purport to make a list of official major holidays where extra time is allotted for turns.

as woody sagely pointed out, enlist a friend who practices different customs than you to take your turns if your culture/religious obligations keep you from CC.

and for the others commenting on other holidays, I suggest when they arrive, you could suggest it at that time as it says major holidays, the description of Christmas is an example as it is drawing near, but again, suggest any other major holiday and take them up when they come closer to the date and timeframe. Again, this is just a suggestion, and not meant to offend anyone.
